A good lesson in politics and history
Revisado: 08-10-21
For anyone worried about current politics and the economy, this book reminds us of the serious challenges navigated before and the fallibility of key decision makers. Truman played his part in history and moved on remaining true to character.

Historia
The assassination of Yitzhak Rabin remains the single most consequential event in Israel's recent history and one that fundamentally altered the trajectory for both Israel and the Palestinians. Killing a King relates the parallel stories of Rabin and his stalker, Yigal Amir, over the two years leading up to the assassination, as one of them planned political deals he hoped would lead to peace - and the other plotted murder.

Great insights on Israel's complex politics.
Revisado: 07-23-21
Covers well the assassination of Rabin and illustrates just how divisive Israel's political landscape is. Lessons for today as well.

Now, more than ever, we need to talk about getting older. Many of us are living to a very great age. In the stirring, highly anticipated first volume of his presidential memoirs, Barack Obama tells the story of his improbable odyssey from young man searching for his identity to leader of the free world, describing in strikingly personal detail both his political education and the landmark moments of the first term of his historic presidency - a time of dramatic transformation and turmoil.

Barack in his own words.
Revisado: 03-14-21
Good overview by Barack himself of his presidential journey. I was hoping to to hear a more insightful discussion of key issues and events, but often just heard an observers view of events and political process. Given the changes which followed his administration in the mood of the nation, he does little to convince that he understands why people didn't agree with him about Healthcare reform and other major legislative initiatives he undertook. Maybe more in volume 2?

Historia
In 2014, Francis Fukuyama wrote that American institutions were in decay, as the state was progressively captured by powerful interest groups. Two years later, his predictions were borne out by the rise to power of a series of political outsiders whose economic nationalism and authoritarian tendencies threatened to destabilize the entire international order. These populist nationalists seek direct charismatic connection to “the people”, who are usually defined in narrow identity terms that offer an irresistible call to an in-group and exclude large parts of the population as a whole.

A bit rambling treatment of big trends of today
Revisado: 12-19-20
Some interesting treatment of the origins of identity politics. Could benefit from more focus on actual outcomes.
