Excellent narration and immersive story

Awful accent!

The narrator's accent is awful whenever he's reading the protagonist--which is most of the time. It's a weird mix of British, bad Australian, and occasional American. I'm going to keep listening because I have to read this book for work but, ugh: the accent is really distracting. (I did look up the voice actor and it doesn't seem that this is his actual voice.)

The narrators are absolutely incredible. They bring the story to life in a way that I've never experienced in an audio book before.

This is my first Audible review. I've listened to amazing books before but this one is by far the best. Ward's novel is incredible and the the performers are incredible. Get it!

Composed toward the end of the first millennium, Beowulf is the elegiac narrative of the adventures of Beowulf, a Scandinavian hero who saves the Danes from the seemingly invincible monster Grendel and, later, from Grendel's mother. He then returns to his own country and dies in old age in a vivid fight against a dragon. The poem is about encountering the monstrous, defeating it, and then having to live on in the exhausted aftermath.

Narrator doesn't do justice to Heaney's translation

Seamus Heaney's translation of Beowulf is wonderful, but this narrator really isn't great. He makes the story hard to follow and, most importantly, he doesn't do justice to the wonderful poetry of Beowulf and Heaney's translation of this majestic text. I had bought this audio version, over the Heaney narration, so that I could hear the full text (the Heaney narration is abridged) but it wasn't worth it; I had to return it.
