Historia
Like many young people, Heidi Julavits kept a diary. Decades later she found her old diaries in a storage bin and hoped to discover the early evidence of the person (and writer) she'd since become. Instead, "The actual diaries revealed me to possess the mind of a paranoid tax auditor." The entries are daily chronicles of anxieties about grades, looks, boys, and popularity. After reading the confessions of her past self, writes Julavits, "I want to good-naturedly laugh at this person. I want to but I can't."

So sorry it's over
Revisado: 06-03-15
I happen to know the author but have not spent time with her in over 15 years. These stories were so vivid and true to the Heidi I remember as a young woman just out of college and starting her journey as a writer. I have followed her loosely since then and thrilled to listen to a beautifully narrated audiobook. I felt as if it was her both from the library style to the well stylized narrator. Bravo Heidi. You are a beautiful writer who captured every bit of my attention with your ability to take either the mundane OR the bizarrely wacky and weave a well crafted story. I only wish I could turn my life into such artful tales. Ps I was relieved not to hear about any "work crushes" on my husband! Phew.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Really...that's how it's ending?!
Revisado: 10-24-12
What made the experience of listening to Gone Girl the most enjoyable?
I don't usually listen/read "mysteries." This one grabbed my attention for most of the time.
Would you recommend Gone Girl to your friends? Why or why not?
I was going to recommend it,but was frankly so disappointed with the ending that I don't think I would.
What three words best describe Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s voice?
Fantastic narration. The two narrators alternate by chapter due to the structure of the story telling. Yet each is able to create a variety of voices within each chapter...really well done.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No...I had to take a break because the plot was so deceptive.
Any additional comments?
Ending felt like a cheap set-up for a second novel. It was really gripping up to the end for me. couldn't believe anyone could come up with some of the plot.
