Historia
"If you go to Antigua as a tourist, this is what you will see. If you come by aeroplane, you will land at the V. C. Bird International Airport. Vere Cornwall (V. C.) Bird is the prime minister of Antigua. You may be the sort of tourist who would wonder why a prime minister would want an airport named after him - why not a school, why not a hospital, why not some great public monument. You are a tourist and you have not yet seen..." So begins Jamaica Kincaid's expansive essay, which shows us what we have not yet seen of the 10-by-12-mile island in the British West Indies.

Not really what I have expected
Revisado: 02-22-21
The beginning of the book was promising. It was interesting to hear the part "if you are a tourist in Antigua, you probably..." and then 2 points of view: the foreigner tourist and the local person. But then lots of nagging and claims for the government and corruption spoiled everything.
I'm not sure what I have expected from this book... probably some sort of description of how to live and grow-up on a small island like Antigua from inside. And maybe, just maybe, the book really shows the inside of this country. But for me, it was like the talk between 2 old neighbours, who just blame all around and especially the top of the corrupted government, recalling how it was in old times. Everything is bad, becomes worse and no escape. This is the idea.
After listening to this book I still have no clue who Antiguans are, what is the sense of their living, what are their unique features, passions, and thoughts. The only thing I found out from the book: they hate tourists and hate their government, and in both cases the reason is envy. IMHO, these characteristics are not enough, but the book does not give us anything else.

Nice short story but a bit naïve
Revisado: 12-09-20
In general, I liked the story, but the plot itself is a bit naïve.
What I really liked here is the performance and all the background sounds (train, carols, etc.) were just in place. I also loved this inside-Italy feeling that was created thanks to the Italian phrases and the accent of locals when they spoke English.
Nice tale for the Christmas holiday season.

A fairy tales for adults
Revisado: 11-18-20
I really enjoyed the story all way through. Very good narration! Unusual plot. A fairy tales for adults, with all the troubles of non-fairytale life. Love it!

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Not inspiring at all
Revisado: 02-28-20
Too many references, and too little of the coffee-story itself.
What also annoyed me, is the constant repetition of "quote", "quote", "quote" for the information that was taken from different sources.
It's OK as a freeby, but not really worth buying.

Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

Book of interesting facts, statistiks and findings
Revisado: 01-16-20
I really enjoyed the book, though it is not about hygge at all, as I thought initially. It is a book about integration into Danish society, with lots of curious information, findings, statistic researches. But all in all, if you woul like to understand Danish people better, read it!

Love it, mo matter what age I am
Revisado: 01-10-20
I read this book for the first time when I was a teenager. And I loved it back then.
Now, 20 years later, I've found this 20th Anniversary Edition and decide that I do not remember the plot well, so before watching a movie, I should remind myself the true story. And I fall in love in it one more time. Great narrators just do make it more perfect.
This book will definitely develop your spatial imagination. I simply adore the games of their armies in school!
Must read!
P.S.
Hopefully, 20 years from now I will forget the plot to the level when it would be possible to read the book once more :)

Great positive and inspiring book
Revisado: 10-04-19
I'm not a music fan at all, but I loved this book.
Adorably kind story, and definitely advised for children of school age.
But I myself is far from that age (36 already) and still I really enjoyed the story, the performance, the music on the background that allows you to feel the melody behind the description.
I've read various fantasy books about schools, magic academies and this one definitely became one of my favorites.
It was a big surprise for me when I discovered that the printed version of the book will be issued only next year. So will have to wait, to get the wooden copy.

Too much whining and peaty to herself
Revisado: 10-04-19
The book is good and probably worth reading and worth all these positive feedbacks.
People, their cultures and countries described really wonderful "from inside". I liked the plot, and sometimes I even was a bit envy that I could not spend a 3-4 month to live in some country. That's awesome to become a part of some other society that is so much different from your own.
But, I did not felt the main hero as a part of me during all the listening... Sometimes I really forced myself to continue, not dropping, because there was too much whining and peaty to herself from the side of the main hero. And that was annoying.
I do not have a proper character to put myself in her shoes.
