Historia
It’s autumn in the town of Harrow, but something besides the season is changing there. Because in that town there is an orchard, and in that orchard, seven most unusual trees. And from those trees grows a new sort of apple: strange, beautiful, with skin so red it’s nearly black. Take a bite of one of these apples, and you will desire only to devour another. And another. You will become stronger. More vital. More yourself, you will believe. But then your appetite for the apples and their peculiar gifts will keep growing—and become darker.

I can't.
Revisado: 01-16-24
So I never quit a book. And I read horror all the time. But I still have 6 hours left of this one and I realized... I just do not care. I don't care what happens to any character. Every character is boring and unlikeable. I especially don't care what happens to Calla. I can't listen to one more minute of the whining loud narrator of her. I'm sure I'm a minority here bc this book has great reviews - so don't let my review turn you off if you are really interested. But.. Ugh. I'm out. I'm so many hours in and nothing has even really happened other than idiotic dialog and a couple bland murders.

Historia
The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women. Essun has inherited the power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every orogene child can grow up safe. For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: That sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed.

Yes.
Revisado: 07-16-21
These are the best books I've read since Miéville years ago. Just as intricate, just as well written, just as much mind-blowing and original world building. Now that I know what I do (things are explained much more by the end of the third book) I feel I need to read them all again. And they're so good I won't mind one bit.
Ten stars if I could.
Also, this narrator is flawless.... Inflection. Accents. Voice. On point.

Historia
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

Very... Meh
Revisado: 02-25-20
I really wanted to quit this book shortly after I started it. I don't know what kept me trudging along honestly. Just sheer stubbornness I suppose. There is not a single original idea in this book. If you have read The Stand (and if you haven't please go buy that instead), or even Swan Song by Robert McCammon... You've read this book. In fact you've read better versions of this book. Save yourself the audible credit. The narrator does a good job is all can say for this. Oh, and did anyone else find themselves rolling their eyes during every part of the 'romance' aspect? Uuggghhhh. There's a second book I'm sure but I honestly do not care what happens to these characters.

Nothing too original here. Basically 'The Stand'. This wasn't my favorite of McCammons books, but an alright story and worth the listen.

Historia
If Indiana Jones lived in the X-Files era, he might bear at least a passing resemblance to Nolan Moore - a rogue archaeologist hosting a documentary series derisively dismissed by the "real" experts, but beloved by conspiracy theorists. Nolan sets out to retrace the steps of an explorer from 1909 who claimed to have discovered a mysterious cavern high up in the ancient rock of the Grand Canyon. And, for once, he may have actually found what he seeks. Then the trip takes a nasty turn, and the cave begins turning against them in mysterious ways.

Take it for what it's worth and enjoy it!
Revisado: 05-07-14
Where does The Atlantis Plague rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Narrator is great, and the story is fun to read and complex. A lot of reviewers have complained about some things not adding up but it is a great listen and and interesting plot. I thoroughly enjoyed both this book and the first book.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Great character development, and I was constantly wondering how the main characters were going to get out of their current predicament.
What does Stephen Bel Davies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He's just an excellent narrator. You focus on the story and not on him, and that is how it should be.

Terrible, terrible narration.
Revisado: 05-07-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Different narrator.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Shandon Loring?
Anyone else.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Black Chronicles: Cry of the Fallen?
I couldn't even make it through it was so badly narrated.

Buy this.. If you like reading only 1/4 of a book!
Revisado: 05-07-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No, the same story line was told four times through the viewpoints of four interconnected groups. Awesome start to a story... But then... It just ends. The reader is great and it has great potential but its honestly just the beginning fourth of a book. Not even half.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Terrible. The plot comes together and then it's over.
Which character – as performed by Christian Rummel and Therese Plummer – was your favorite?
Holly
Do you think The Junkie Quatrain needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Desperately. Where is the rest of the story? This is just the very beginning.
Any additional comments?
Where's the rest of it??!
