Historia
In a culture that prizes productivity, efficiency, and success, it’s easy to feel as though we’re constantly falling short and to lose sight of joy. The homeschool community is not exempt from this pressure, but longtime educator Leslie Martino shows parents how to slow down to recapture the delight and depth that are hallmarks of meaningful learning. The Joy of Slow offers a much-needed reset, inspiring parents to prioritize the needs of each individual child and to help them find renewed freedom and passion.

BEST book on homeschooling I’ve ever read!
Revisado: 08-26-24
I discovered this book through an interview with the author on an episode of the 1,000 Hours Outside podcast. As a homeschooling mother of three who also grew up homeschooled, I’ve been a prolific and enthusiastic reader throughout my childhood and adult life. This book is HANDS-DOWN the absolute best book I’ve ever encountered in the arena of home-education. It is incredibly well-researched and jam-packed with wisdom, insight, actionable direction, and inspiration. I have never before been able to apply what I’ve read in a book so immediately, freely, and joyously as with The Joy of Slow. My children, their learning, and our family are THRIVING through the principals shared in this fantastic book. I could not recommend it more highly. If you desire a connected, joy-filled, discovery-rich family life with children who are eager and lifelong learners, and if you too want balance, joy, and inspiration as a parent, you will love this book. I’m so happy to have discovered it!

Historia
Set in a not-too-distant America, I Cheerfully Refuse is the tale of a bereaved and pursued musician embarking under sail on a sentient Lake Superior in search of his departed, deeply beloved, bookselling wife. Rainy, an endearing bear of an Orphean narrator, seeks refuge in the harbors, fogs, and remote islands of the inland sea. Encountering lunatic storms and rising corpses from the warming depths, Rainy finds on land an increasingly desperate and illiterate people, a malignant billionaire ruling class, crumbled infrastructure, and a lawless society.

Story grows jarringly dark and aimless
Revisado: 04-15-24
Aside from a meandering plot, there are too many profanities of all things religious or Christian. References to church, God, the Bible, crosses, etc, are darkly negative and joined to horrifically evil characters. A shock after cherishing Enger’s Peace Like a River for decades.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

My favorite book by Tamera Alexander
Revisado: 01-16-23
I love Tamera Alexander’s Timber Ridge Reflections. All three are my favorite of her books. This one is perhaps my favorite of the three in this series, though all are so wonderful. Robin Miles is my favorite narrator as well. She has an outstanding ability to portray each character’s uniqueness and depth. I especially love James. This audiobook is a treasure!

Historia
Morgan Freeman narrates this poignant retelling of the Nativity, weaving together the gospels of Matthew and Luke as it follows Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem, culminating in the touching events surrounding the birth of Jesus. An awe-inspiring musical score by The Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Oxford, captures all the power and beauty of the very first Christmas.

Unexpectedly frightening

Contains flight into Egypt with Herod’s murder of baby boys in frightening detail for very young listeners (my daughter is 5). I am very upset because the book will not delete from my device.

More than anything, however, Barnes' story is one of loss - of morale lost to alcoholism, teammates lost to friendly fire, missions aborted, and missions endlessly and futilely repeated. And yet against this dark background, Barnes graciously honors the quiet professionals whose service, overshadowed by the outsized story of Vietnam, nonetheless carried the day.

Well said!
Revisado: 03-19-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, great presentation for a strong reality for many of our vets. Very well present by Mr. Spalding, who is a vet himself! He knows all too well what this is all about!
What was one of the most memorable moments of When We Walked Above the Clouds?
When he is depicting early training on the bus and afterwards. But really so much of it can be related to by vets. I have served the vets at the VA hospital as a doctor, and what they have been through is truly heroic, though even sometimes they may not see it that way. A lot of my family are vets or active military... thank you for your sacrifice and service!
Any additional comments?
GREAT LISTEN! Check it out!
