Surprisingly good, a fantastic introduction to art
Revisado: 07-06-23
This book is about the life of a modern master forger, an interesting story in itself, as it is very well written and well read.
However, the pleasant surprise for me is the forger's absolutely authentic love of art, especially the old masters. His vast knowledge of their work, and his enthusiasm about their specific paintings kept me turning to Google.
I learned about old masters - their life and their talent - and specific paintings and sculptures.
It is not written by an art critic or historian, so all the knowledge is very accessible.
This book made me want to travel to Rome to see these master pieces for myself.

Not worth the time
Revisado: 05-26-23
Poorly written, formalistic, no originality, forgotten before you finish it.
I keept slugging on because of the author and the wishful thinking that a twist was just beyond the next page.
I was sadly wrong.

Fantastic old school thriller
Revisado: 03-13-23
No cell phones, no laptops, no GPS. People have a "home line", hadn't heard that in ages 🙂
When somebody wants to buy a plane ticket, he rings the BA office.
All this just adds to the authenticity of the plot, which is well thought out, detailed where it needs to be, and a real page turner.
The narration is perfect, adding another dimension to the book.
One of the best thrillers I have listened to.

99 % self advertising
Revisado: 02-23-23
Some of these "how to" books contain a sales pitch, but this one is way beyond that...The self advertising is so aggressive it sometimes feels like a parody, and except the constant tedious and clumsy attemps to sell you products, there is precious little here.
In short: only listen to it if you get well paid to do it.

A Personal and Candid Falkland's War Journal
Revisado: 10-04-22
This is the Falkland's War as seen through the eyes of one junior officer, who was in a position to observe both the conduct of the fighting soldiers on the ground and also the conduct and decisions of the senior commanders.
Because it was written a long time after the conflict, and because the author had left the army decades ago, it offers a more independent and balanced view of the British army on the eve of the war, during the campaign and the years immediately after.
It highlights first hand the heroism, fear, physical and mental hardships, moral dilemmas, comradeship, and humour that made up a real soldiers experience in the Falklands.
Well narrated and highly recommended!

Historia
In early summer 1982 - winter in the South Atlantic - Argentina's military junta invades the Falklands. Within days, a Royal Navy Task Force is assembled and dispatched. This is the story of D Squadron, 22 SAS, commanded by Cedric Delves. The relentless tempo of events defies belief. Raging seas, inhospitable glaciers, hurricane-force winds, helicopter crashes, raids behind enemy lines - the Squadron prevailed against them all, but the cost was high.

So much better than the usual military memoir!
Revisado: 05-25-21
A personal account of the Falklands campaign from an SAS perspective, however, this is not in the usual Rambo style, but rather an honest account of the dilemas, problems, tragedies, indicision, pressures, regrets, mistakes etc...along with the triumphs, determination, courage and great accomplishments.
The narration is excellent, exactly suited to the tone of the book.
Highly recommended, an excellent listen!

Historia
Over the last 40 years our choices have narrowed, our opportunities have shrunk, and our lives have become governed by a handful of very large and very powerful corporations. Today, practically everything we buy, everywhere we shop, and every service we secure comes from a heavily concentrated market. This is a world where four major banks control most of our money, four airlines shuttle most of us around the country, and four major cell phone providers connect most of our communications.

Historia
Ignoring nearly all rock traditions, experimenting in near-total secrecy in their Düsseldorf studio, Kraftwerk fused sound and technology, graphic design and performance, modernist Bauhaus aesthetics and Rhineland industrialisation - even human and machine - to change the course of modern music. This is the story of Kraftwerk as a cultural phenomenon, who turned electronic music into avant-garde concept art and created the soundtrack to our digital age.

Not just for die hard fans of Kraftwek
Revisado: 07-20-20
This book gives a very interesting description of the background of Kraftwerk (artistic, social, political' "German") , talks about the concept behind the band and about their hugely important legacy.
It is not overly academic, it is quite entertaining and will quickly send you back to the great music of Kraftwerk, this time with a much better understanding of the depth and concept.
The narration is also excellent.
Highly recommended, not just for Robots and Man Machines, but also for regular Humans.
