Historia
Riding the rails, Ted Conover tasted the life of a tramp with companions like Pistol Pete, BB, and Sheba Sheila Sheils. From them he learned survival skills - how to "read" a freight train, scavenge for food and clothing, avoid the railroad "bulls." He was initiated into the customs of their unique, shadowy society - men and women bound together by a mutual bond of failure, camaraderie, and distrust.

Interesting. Held my attention. Easy to listen to.

Would you listen to Rolling Nowhere again? Why?
Yes. I have listened 3 times. I worked for Union Pacific in Green River Wyoming. I used to see & sometimes talk to guys jumping the trains. Always wondered what it was like. They all looked like they had a hard life. But, somehow they seemed content to wander. Sometimes I also wanted to wander. The book gives a glimpse into that way of life.
What about the narrator’s performance did you like?
Kept my interest.

Historia
Islands, Oceans, and Dreams is a true story of a man who, at the age of 33, began dreaming of voyaging with his wife to the South Pacific. He wasn't an adventurer or daring by nature, but he bought a boat and began learning the ways of the sea. Twenty years later, racked with the pain of divorce and still aching to live out his dream, he set off alone for Tahiti. After reaching French Polynesia, he continued cruising for seven years and wound up solo sailing around the world. Islands, Oceans, and Dreams takes the listener on that voyage.

A personal favorite

What made the experience of listening to Islands, Oceans, and Dreams the most enjoyable?
The way his experiences were described. Felt like I was there. And, he's a San Diegan. Like I am.
What about Andrew Parker’s performance did you like?
Great story teller. Like it was his own experience.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Loved the book. I'll listen to it again.
Any additional comments?
Wish it was twice as long.

Historia
For anyone who ever wanted to be an archaeologist, Ian Graham could be a hero. This lively memoir chronicles Graham's career as the "last explorer" and a fierce advocate for the protection and preservation of Maya sites and monuments across Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. It is also full of adventure and high society, for the self-deprecating Graham traveled to remote lands such as Afghanistan in wonderful company.

Wasted my time
Revisado: 02-14-13
What disappointed you about The Road to Ruins?
The first 3 hours were about the author growing up in England. I thought the book was about Mayan ruins. Not about a stuffy childhood.
What was most disappointing about Ian Graham’s story?
3 listening hours were wasted on his childhood. It was boring.
What didn’t you like about John Mawson’s performance?
Neither liked or disliked.

Historia
Francis Parkman has been hailed as one of America's first great historians and as a master of narrative history. His work has been praised by historians who have published essays in new editions of his work, including Pulitzer Prize winners C. Vann Woodward, Allan Nevins and Samuel Eliot Morison. Numerous translations have spread the books around the world. Be forewarned that Parkman was a man of his time and he does little to hide his prejudices, especially against native Americans.

Interesting
Revisado: 12-21-09
I thougt it was supposed to be about life traveling in wagon trains on the Oregon trail. There was very little about wagon trains. The book is mostly about mountain men traveling with the indians. And ALOT about killing buffalo. It was like the Buffalo holocaust. Every 5 minutes they were killing everything in sight.
