Historia
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

The narration was amazing...
Revisado: 10-06-24
and I found the story terrifying. The feeling of oppression throughout was palpable and the narration was perfect for this tale. Delanie Nicole Gill delivered a performance of such sweetness and innocence that when she delivered lines describing other mommy I had chills running down my spine. Thanks Mr. Malerman for delivering a great story, and many thanks to all involved in this superlative production.

Hated the narration and hated the lack of resolution at the end. Glad I didn’t waste a credit on this.

The bad narration
Revisado: 01-21-24
This might as well have been read by a zombie. This is my second story in this series with virtual voice and while the story itself may not be bad I can only wish it had been read by a human. Maybe the author himself or a Ray Porter or an RC Bray would have done it justice. The flat delivery especially during action scenes was definitely off putting.

I found it pretty powerful, if a bit bleak.
Revisado: 12-08-22
The narration was spot on for this tale of a demon haunted man and his family. I hesitate to say I enjoyed this (simply because that sounds pretty callous when reading about a situation like this) but I was engrossed in the tale and found myself hoping against hope for something to save them.

Historia
The three novels that make up The Forsyte Saga chronicle the ebbing social power of the commercial upper-middle class Forsyte family through three generations, beginning in Victorian London during the 1880s and ending in the early 1920s. Galsworthy's masterly narrative examines not only their fortunes but also the wider developments within society, particularly the changing position of women.

Revisado: 01-03-22
The narrator was just so wooden I had a very hard time appreciating the story. I have to admit that at 2 hours in I just gave up. I have this book in print as well and so think that I will give it a try that way.

While some beautiful language is used in this novel...
Revisado: 05-04-19
It is deeply flawed. The fact that resources are abundant decades after the fall of civilization truly is just one point that stuck in my craw. There are many other situations in this book that irritated me to the point I didn’t finish it.

Historia
For the past twenty-five years, Margaret Atwood has written works of striking originality and imagination. In The Blind Assassin, she stretches the limits of her accomplishments as never before, creating a novel that is entertaining and profoundly serious. The novel opens with these simple, resonant words: "Ten days after the war ended, my sister drove a car off the bridge." They are spoken by Iris, whose terse account of her sister Laura's death in 1945 is followed by an inquest report proclaiming the death accidental.

Revisado: 11-14-17
This one was a genuine struggle for me. Sometimes complexity and multi-layered tales become burdensome and this story was that for me. I usually really love tales by this author but this is one I had to call it quits on.

A really great selection of stories
Revisado: 12-17-15
Would you listen to Macabre Tales again? Why?
yes but in small increments a story or two at a time.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Since this is a story collection its not a relevant question.
Did Cathy Dobson do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I had trouble staying focused during Ms. Dobson's narration to be honest. She has a lovely voice with a rich timbre but for some reason I could not stay focused and found myself having to rewind frequently because I would zone out during the listening session.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
no

Finally! Unabridged and with a stellar cast!
Revisado: 08-27-14
What made the experience of listening to World War Z: The Complete Edition (Movie Tie-in Edition) the most enjoyable?
I was so excited to see this! I have owned the abridged version for years and it is remarkable but being a compleatest I felt it was necessary to get this version as well. I mulled over just getting The Lost Files but I thought it would be better to have this version as it had everything in sequential order. It was worth every penny to hear this tale the way it should have been done from the beginning.
What was one of the most memorable moments of World War Z: The Complete Edition (Movie Tie-in Edition)?
There are so many moments that are memorable, this cast was amazing and the performances were excellent.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Hearing each episode in the "voice" of the character makes this compelling and hard to stop listening to. Missing sleep to finish this, my rational mind says...it will still be where I left it when I get up. However, its just too good to stop listening.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Well, it actually took me several sittings due to the length but I missed quite a bit of sleep to get it listened to as soon as possible.
Any additional comments?
Many thanks to Mr. Brooks and all the cast and crew for making available this remarkable production.
