I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to know what happened next. Loved all the angles of relationships – family, neighbors, love interests. Relatable and inspiring.

Historia
Every day Iona, a larger-than-life magazine advice columnist, travels the ten stops from Hampton Court to Waterloo Station by train, accompanied by her dog, Lulu. Every day she sees the same people, whom she knows only by nickname: Impossibly-Pretty-Constant-Reader and Terribly-Lonely-Teenager. Of course, they never speak. Seasoned commuters never do. Then one morning, the man she calls Smart-But-Sexist-Manspreader chokes on a grape right in front of her. He’d have died were it not for the timely intervention of Sanjay, a nurse, who gives him the Heimlich maneuver.

Great story except lesbian stuff and bursts of language
Revisado: 03-12-24
Clever story. I love how all the characters connect and help each other. Really thought-provoking and unique. Really brilliantly written that way. There were probably a dozen “F”words and some sexual scenes. Plus other vulgarity and lesbian stuff. Not super often but somewhere pretty strong. I would give this a 5 without the junk in it. As it is, I couldn’t recommend it to a friend. I wish talented authors would leave that stuff out. I’m too scared to read her other books now.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Wow! Thank you! We need reform in the US!
Revisado: 02-22-24
How have I never known about everything that goes on in the United States? I knew people got treated this way in my grandparents era, but a lot of this book happened in MY lifetime. Unbelievable that people can be treated this way especially compromised people like children, the poor, and handicapped. This book was very educational and gripping. I couldn’t put it down! Thank you to the author for living his life the way he did. You are truly changing the world. Let’s all do better.

Too much sex for me, unrealistic
Revisado: 12-15-23
Although it wasn’t detailed, it talked about sex and had suggestive jokes in it. It started out cute and fun but got a little too much for me.

Hard to listen to, breathy, whistle-y performance
Revisado: 11-10-20
It was a fun and unique story line, but I feel like I suffered through the whole thing. The quiet, breathy and whistle-y performance didn’t seem to match the vivacious story or characters. When I turned the volume up so I could hear the words, it became very breathy and every “s” made a whistle sound.

Dark and long

Not what I would call inspirational. The dark details were long and drawn out and the end and was sad and unfulfilling.
