Historia
Even though Torie Bergstrom hasn't been back to Georgia since she was ten, she was happy to arrange a job for her best friend at one of the family properties on Jekyll Island. But when Torie learns that Lisbeth has drowned, she knows it is more than a tragic accident: Lisbeth was terrified of water and wouldn't have gone swimming by choice.

Horrible, Religious, Unrealistic Cheesy Romance Novel
Revisado: 07-08-22
I never write reviews but good god this one was bad. I’ll admit I did not get to the ending as I decided to stop torturing myself. For some reason I thought this was a thriller; it is absolutely not even close. This book is probably given out to kids at Sunday school to show them what a pure adult relationship looks like. Fall in love, then have your first kiss. Even the narrator sounds like she’s reading to children. No likable characters, nothing realistic about any part of the story, and cringe-worthy dialogue galore. In full transparency, I am not a fan of romance novels in general but this was absolutely unbearable. Can’t wait to return this one. If only I could get my 7 wasted hours back.

Horrible ending
Revisado: 06-22-19
Was ready to give this book 4 stars until the incredibly stupid and laughable ending. It made absolutely zero sense and ruined the entire book. Don’t waste your time with this one. What a disappointment.

Historia
Wife. Mother. Breadwinner. Penelope Ruiz-Kar is doing it all - and barely keeping it together. Meanwhile, her best friend, Jenny Sweet, appears to be sailing through life. As close as the two women are, Jenny’s passionate marriage, pristine house, and ultra-polite child stand in stark contrast to Penelope’s underemployed husband, Sanjay, their unruly brood, and the daily grind she calls a career.

Boring, pointless, and painful to listen to
Revisado: 05-22-19
Well, that’s 8 hours I’ll never get back. What a complete waste of time. This book is absolutely pointless with no likable characters or plot. The entire book is an overly self-involved, self-righteous woman complaining about her incredibly privileged life and first world problems. There is no substance to the book at all. The narrator talks like a brain dead valley girl. I finished it just because I can’t leave a book unfinished, but the ending was just as fruitless as everything else about the book.

Historia
Megan Jacobs always wished for a different heart. Her entire childhood was spent in and out of hospitals, sitting on the sidelines while her twin sister, Crystal, played all the sports, got all the guys, and had all the fun. But even a heart transplant three years ago wasn’t enough to propel Megan’s life forward. She’s still working as a library aide and living with her parents in her small Minnesota hometown, dreaming of the adventure she plans to take "once she’s well enough." Meanwhile, her sister has the perfect life - or so Megan thinks.

Horrible
Revisado: 08-14-18
Wow, I can’t believe I just wasted 6 hours of my life on this book. The positive reviews have to be written by 16 year old girls. First of all, the most interesting part of the book—the travel—is a barely mentioned backstory to the cheesiest romance stories I’ve ever read in my life. Not only is this book incredibly unrealistic in countless ways, but the story is just downright dumb. Add in the overbearing Christian preaching and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a desperate (and very much failed) attempt at a heart-warming story. Vanilla to the core. Can’t get my credit back fast enough.

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

3.5 stars, maybe 4. Liked the twists in the plot and the ending was satisfying. Unique, which is rare for thrillers these days. Doesn’t seem realistic at all but it was a fun read.

Revisado: 01-06-18
The whole story is great up until the last hour. What a horrible ending. I’m in shock that this was written by two women. Makes absolutely no sense and is an insult to all women.

Wanted to love it
Revisado: 08-23-16
What would have made Year of Yes better?
More raw, honest truth and less bragging about success. Maybe some information or tools on how she harnessed her talents.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Will take a break from nonfiction after this.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her narration was ok. You can see why her characters talk the way they do (especially in Scandal). They are very heavily influenced by Shonda herself.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was very disappointed with Year of Yes. I love all of Shonda's shows and admire her talent and drive, but this book came off as a big opportunity to brag about her success. I am all about empowering other women and like I said, I truly admire her work as well as her dedication, but this book fell short. There were some funny parts, but I couldn't bring myself to finish it. I'm sad because it was on my wish list for months so I was really looking forward to it.
Any additional comments?
I really really wanted to love this book. I listened to it much longer than I wanted to and still couldn't finish it. Just watch her TED talk instead. Will continue to watch her shows though and truly wish Shonda continued success.
