Hi best yet
Revisado: 01-13-21
I have read every one of Baldacci’s novels, this is his best yet.
It’s two stories in one which felt like a free bonus to me. Atlee works with John puller which is great.
Then we get a great story about atlee’s missing sister. By this time I feel like atlee is one of my best friends and I am desperate to see how mercy’s story proceeds. I hope Baldacci hurry’s with the next book.

Absolutely Gruesome
Revisado: 10-22-20
I loved the format of the book, short first person narration chapters, which alternated between the two main characters. The plot is littered with twists, each more surprising and gruesome than the last. I didn’t see any of them coming.
The ending was gruesome and tragic, but satisfying, none the less. What does that say about me, I wonder.

Historia
Ever since Edgar Allan Poe looted a family's ignoble secret history for his classic story "The Fall of the House of Usher", living in the shadow of that sick dynasty has been an inescapable scourge for generations of Usher descendants. But not for horror novelist Rix Usher. Years ago he fled the isolated family estate of Usherland in the menacing North Carolina hills to pursue his writing career. He promised never to return. But his father's impending death has brought Rix back home to assume the role of Usher patriarch - and face his worst fears.

Horribly Magnificent
Revisado: 12-12-19
I haven’t read a horror story in decades, but the connection with Poe ‘s story sounded interesting to me. I have read McCammon’s Matthew Corbet series and enjoyed it very much. I wanted to see if I would like any of McCammon’s other books.
Usher’s Passing fleshes out Poe’s original story with details that are as wonderful as they are horrifying. It was so intense that at least twice I put it down and decided I couldn’t take it any more. The last and strongest feeling of intensity came at the end, when the denouement came just in time to get me through to a very satisfying finish. And yes, at the end, of course there was a hint that the evil may not have been completely vanquished. The subject for a sequel perhaps.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-28-17
I heard the author on TV and I thought the book would be very good. It is overly elementary for me. Perhaps a new Christian would feel differently.
Also the narrator sounded robotic and stilted. I couldn't finish the book.

One night in Waterloo, Iowa, with young policeman Virgil Holt watching from the audience, she swaps her trademark saw for a fire ax. Is it a new version of the illusion, or an all-too-real murder? When Arden's husband is found lifeless beneath the stage later that night, the answer seems clear.

Good story
Revisado: 10-26-16
The story was pretty interesting. The female narrator 's style made the female characters seem a bit exotic, which fits the story ok, but it made Clive, a good guy seem as creepy as the bad guy. Perhaps the male narrator should have read all the males. I found this male voice problem to be very distracting for the first half of the book
