This brief discourse is decidedly and robustly academic. The audiobook focuses exclusively on the physical refutation of the free will construct, concurrently addressing claims that because we are human, our choices are somehow exempt from physical law. It also delves deeply into quantum mechanical principles and phenomena relevant to the free will question, siding with Einstein, Bohm, Hawking, Krauss, and others regarding the causal nature of both the macro and quantum world.

A predetermined belief that this book is a falicy!
Revisado: 02-09-23
According to this philosophy we have no choice in anything. That everything, every action, every thought, every event is all predetermined by the cause and effects of the universe, beginning with the big bang. It fundamentally denies the existence of a God, a devine creator, and avails ourselves from any responsibility for anything. Then the author attributes denial of a belief in climate change as a function of our flawed belief in free will. As a doctor in geology, I can point out many flaws in climate change assumptions, skewed science and statistics, radical theories, inaccurate observations, denial of the history of the earth and geology or climatology, and a general appeal to human emotions, extremist ideologies, that ignore the facts in favor of a cult like following. This goes along with a denial of God as well.

The story was interesting and full of unrecognized pirates. However, it was kind a rehash of The General History of Pirates, by Charles Johnson, who was a fictitious person.

Historia
For more than 200 years, the wreck of the Whydah (and the riches that went down with it) eluded treasure seekers, until the ship was finally found in 1984 by marine archaeologists. The artifacts brought up from the ocean floor are priceless, both in value and in the picture they reveal of life in that much-mythologized era, changing much of what we know about pirates.

Loved the research, history, facts, and storyline. I have read and listened to over 25 books on pirates and thought I knew quite a lot. However, I was amazed at what I learned from Martin Sandler's research.
An excellent performance by the narrator. He was entertaining, great voice inflections and tone change for different characters or circumstances. Overall a great story teller.
Between the author and the narrator's outstanding presentation, I am inspired to put down a new adventure on my bucket list of things I must do. A visit to Berry Cliffords', "Whydah Museum" , in Cape Cod. I can't wait...

There are plenty of other elements about real-life pirates that are simply fiction. But what about the real history of pirates - is it worth exploring, and why? The history of the Golden Age of Piracy, the one that has shaped the modern conception of a pirate, is complex and long, with lots of information to cover.

Historia
For this rousing, revisionist history, the former head of exhibitions at England's National Maritime Museum has combed original documents and records to produce a most authoritative and definitive account of piracy's "Golden Age." As he explodes many accepted myths (i.e. "walking the plank" is pure fiction), Cordingly replaces them with a truth that is more complex and often bloodier.

Revisado: 01-10-23
The written kept my interest from beginning to end. Full of facts, exciting stories, adventure, and fun. The author David Cording did an outstanding job. Now one of my favorites.
Then to followup the excellent writing there is the narrator. Don Hagan kept the story going with his soothing voice, interesting tone, and voice inflections in quoting different characters.
I have read and listened to many Pirate Books. I rate this one among the best that I have encountered. A pure delight from beginning to end. Will listen it again and again...

Historia
During his life and even after his death, Captain William Kidd’s name was known around England and the American colonies. He was infamous for the very crime for which he was hanged, piracy. This book by Rebecca Simon dives into the details of the two-year manhunt for Captain Kidd and the events that ensued afterward. Captain Kidd was hanged in 1701, and from that sprung a massive hunt for all pirates led by the British during a period known as the Golden Age of Piracy. Ironically, public executions only led to pirates’ growth in popularity and interest.

Historia
The pirate is one of the best-known and most-loved anti-heroes. The image of a swaggering adventurer in a tricorne hat and a pair of long leather sea-boots has been a part of Western popular culture for more than 300 years. However, a great deal of what we believe about pirates is actually based on fictional stories, and even the popular conception of what a pirate looks like is based on a very specific time and place. The truth is that pirates have been around for as long as humans have been sailing ships out of sight of land.

Lacks detail or any revelations worth noting about pirates. Just a simple rehash of a couple of pirates that were not even accurate. Waste of my time...
