Can't stop listening!
Revisado: 09-18-23
A perfect blend of humor, low-key fun with some deep emotional moments. This novel reminds me of the fun that playing RPGs with friends can be while also being realistic about how people can be in MMOs.

Vivid and Detailed, can't say enough great
Revisado: 11-17-22
If you loved how Mercedes Lackey could bring together character from different series you will love this one. It takes a deft hand to weave together multiple stories, plots and time lines so fluidly.
Like all his works the details and vivid. I can not say enough good about this book.
*there are some flash back sequences so do pay attention and not zone out.

Historia
Less than three months have passed since Captain Charlotte Omandi and the crew of Earth’s first starship, the TSS Bladerunner, narrowly prevented an extinction-level event from wiping out humanity. Omandi knows Earth remains on borrowed time, until she meets with leaders of the Galactic Confederation to convince them that our planet no longer represents a threat. As she and her crew prepare to become the first humans to travel outside our solar system, a string of assassination attempts lead them to an unlikely mystery.

the space exploration we grew up wanting
Revisado: 09-20-21
If you grew up watching any scifi and dreaming of exploring brave new worlds this is the book for you. The pop culture references anyone of us would make are deftly sprinkled into key moments providing texture, fan service and humor to the story.
Ross proves that great space stories don't have to be bogged down in drama nor dark to be great or to tackle deeper meanings in their stories.

Historia
In 2004, Doctor Damien Howard's 131st birthday celebration took an unexpected turn. His personal SETI project detected an extraterrestrial signal directed at Earth. Unfortunately, Dr. Howard's long-hoped-for communication contained a message of dire warning rather than greeting. In 1945, humanity had become a species of galactic interest and was given 100 years to address the issue.

Jumping into Science Fiction while keeping the Fun
Revisado: 08-26-20
All the wit and banter I love out of Ross' books. So excited to see him jumping into a scifi book while keeping what I so love in his voice.
There is definitely science to his science fiction but not so much that it takes over the story, or frustrates readers who don't 'science', while also not having having too much 'hand waving' away of the science.
Great balance, so excited to see where this world is going to go.

Historia
1941. Audrey Coltrane has always wanted to fly. It's why she implored her father to teach her at the little airfield back home in Texas. It’s why she signed up to train military pilots in Hawaii when the war in Europe began. And it’s why she insists she is not interested in any dream-derailing romantic involvements, even with the disarming Lieutenant James Hart, who fast becomes a friend as treasured as the women with whom she flies. Then one fateful day, she gets caught in the air over Pearl Harbor just as the bombs begin to fall, and suddenly, nowhere feels safe.

Captivating and great Pandemic read

this is not my normal style of book by any means so I was suprised by how truly captivating it is. Many authors strive to create stories so real and emotional. This is a gem and will stay with you.

Historia
Is bourbon the quintessential American liquor? Bourbon is not just alcohol - the amber-colored drink is deeply ingrained in American culture and tangled in American history. From the early days of raw corn liquor to the myriad distilleries that have proliferated around the country today, bourbon is a symbol of the United States. This course traces bourbon's entire history, from the 1700s, with Irish, Scottish, and French settlers setting up stills and making distilled spirits in the New World, through today's booming resurgence.

Revisado: 06-25-20
The history was well presented and conversation in style. I love this, he should how thing applied bother from history and how the topic helped to shape certain trends.
I would love to just sit and talk with the author about this and well anything.

Best LitRPG I've read
Revisado: 06-01-20
Unlike some of the books in the LitRPG category this book reads as if the author is a gamer. This is a story with developed characters and understanding of people and game mechanics.
The "character sheets" don't take away from the story nearly as much as they do with most books like this one. Also, is lacking in the depressive tropes.

Historia
In Minatsol, being a dweller means that you are literally no better than dirt. In fact, dirt might actually be more useful than Willa. Her life will be one of servitude to the sols, the magic-blessed beings who could one day be chosen to become gods. At least her outer village is far removed from the cities of the sols, and she won't ever be forced to present herself to them... Until one small mistake changes everything, and Willa is awarded a position to serve at Blesswood, the top sol academy in the world - a position that she definitely did not earn.

a fun new world.
Revisado: 04-15-20
A great listen. I would say the world is a nice mix of some modern tropes used wisely. a dash of hunger games society structure, a bit of boarding school environment and some great sass to mix in some fresh takes.
my only complaint is: "to be continued" is a sucky ending. just delete the sentence and the finish of the story is much better.

Historia
Despite his youth, Declan Idrys knows of the evils of the world. He knows of the bastards and brigands who plague the King's lands, of the monsters skulking in the wooded depths of the realm. Together with his companion, Ryn - a beast of rather peculiar talent - he has spent the last decade of his life beneath the bloody banners of a half-dozen mercenary guilds, hunting precisely such festering wickedness within the borders of Viridian.

not your typical 'boy and his Dragon story
Revisado: 04-01-20
Great book, I enjoyed the subtle use of tropes and Turing them on their sides. There are some elements in it that remind me of Mercedes Lackey's early works as well as some classic elements that mix in a bit of Lord of the Rings. Don't worry they do more than hike in the woods.
