Historia
An early American adage proclaimed, "The frontier was heaven for men and dogshell for women and mules." Since the 1700s, when his name first appeared in print, Daniel Boone has been synonymous with America's westward expansion and life on the frontier. Traces is a retelling of Boone's saga through the eyes of his wife, Rebecca, and her two oldest daughters, Susannah and Jemima.

A Likely Story
Revisado: 06-28-24
This is a beautiful novel. Hudson has read between the lines of the historical record and listened with her imagination to the silence where Others in history—like the Boone women—live and feel and tell their stories. Bravo! I finished reading this novel believing that the story in it was likely the truth.

Seriously Clowny
Revisado: 07-02-22
Great story, great characters, well written, well performed. I don’t know much about clowns, but the history, lore, education, and antics ring true. The humor and the mystery compliment each other nicely.

The Work of a Poet
Revisado: 09-08-21
After his years of teaching, Longfellow focused on the work of a poet. Yet his preparation through education and academic work was, in a sense, his apprenticeship, his juvenilia. This biography makes clear how important the life he lived was to the work he did.
Supplement this book with Dana Gioia’s essay “Longfellow in the Aftermath of Modernism” to understand how we lost this great American artist and how we might recover our appreciation of him.

Doig at his best
Revisado: 07-09-19
Beautiful, lyrical, and sweet. This is the Ivan Doig I was hoping for, returning to his work after many years away. The narrative performance fit the narrative itself, although at times the editing left something to be desired.
