Historia
The day Anna McDonald's quiet, respectable life explodes starts off like all the days before: Packing up the kids for school, making breakfast, listening to yet another true crime podcast. Then her husband comes downstairs with an announcement, and Anna is suddenly, shockingly alone. Reeling, desperate for distraction, Anna returns to the podcast. Other people's problems are much better than one's own - a sunken yacht, a murdered family, a hint of international conspiracy. But this case actually is Anna's problem. She knows one of the victims from an earlier life.

Predictable story
Revisado: 06-11-24
I found the story line predictable and while at first seemed engaging was ultimately predictable. I listened on audiobook and even went back a few chapters at the end thinking I missed something. It’s a modern day “who did it” clue type mystery and not what I was hoping from Reese’s books.

Historia
True biz? The students at the River Valley School for the Deaf just want to hook up, pass their history finals, and have politicians, doctors, and their parents stop telling them what to do with their bodies. This revelatory novel plunges listeners into the halls of a residential school for the deaf, where they’ll meet Charlie, a rebellious transfer student who’s never met another deaf person before; Austin, the school’s golden boy, whose world is rocked when his baby sister is born hearing; and February, the hearing headmistress.

Great story rooted in historical influence
Revisado: 04-22-24
As someone who works in the Deaf community, I loved the combination of teen interests with historical and modern day issues surrounding the Deaf community.

Historia
As an undergraduate, Michele Filgate started writing an essay about being abused by her stepfather. It took her more than a decade to realize that she was actually trying to write about how this affected her relationship with her mother. When it was finally published, the essay went viral, shared on social media by Anne Lamott, Rebecca Solnit, and many others. This gave Filgate an idea, and the resulting anthology offers a candid look at our relationships with our mothers.

Couldn’t stop listening

I listened to this in 3 days. Wonderful raw vignettes of being human, being a woman and being a mother.
