Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Historia
Colonel William Reid has returned home from India to retire near his children, who are safely stowed at an academy in Bath. Upon his return to the Isles, however, he finds that one of his daughters has vanished, along with one of her classmates. Because she served as second-in-command to the Pink Carnation, one of England’s most intrepid spies, it would be impossible for Gwendolyn Meadows to give up the intrigue of Paris for a quiet life in the English countryside - especially when she’s just overheard news of an alliance forming between Napoleon and an Ottoman Sultan.

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Perfect for the Twilight lover. I smiled. I giggled. I laughed out loud. This is a treasure to see how it went for you at that young age. I was older than you. But I loved it all the same. Thanks again!

Historia
In February 2014, Reni Eddo-Lodge posted an impassioned argument on her blog about her deep-seated frustration with the way discussions of race and racism in Britain were constantly being shut down by those who weren't affected by it. She gave the post the title 'Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race'. Her sharp, fiercely intelligent words hit a nerve, and the post went viral, spawning a huge number of comments from people desperate to speak up about their own similar experiences.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Historia
Heather McGhee’s specialty is the American economy—and the mystery of why it so often fails the American public. From the financial crisis of 2008 to rising student debt to collapsing public infrastructure, she found a root problem: racism in our politics and policymaking. But not just in the most obvious indignities for people of color. Racism has costs for white people, too. It is the common denominator of our most vexing public problems, the core dysfunction of our democracy and constitutive of the spiritual and moral crises that grip us all.

Narrator ruined it. Stacey Abrams deserved better!
Revisado: 07-31-21
I liked the story. I would have thoroughly enjoyed it, as the creative political thriller it is, if it had been produced with a much MUCH different narrator. The worst thing was how her voice turned up at the end of each sentence. It drove me crazy. A political thriller by The Stacey Abrams deserves so much better. Re-record it, replace this recording with a fixed option, offer it to everyone who listened to this bad version. Please.

Historia
Brain over Binge provides both a gripping personal account and an informative scientific perspective on bulimia and binge eating disorder. The author, Kathryn Hansen, candidly shares her experience as a bulimic and her alternative approach to recovery. Brain over Binge is different from other eating disorder books which typically present binge eating and purging as symptoms of complex emotional and psychological problems.

4/14/2021 - 5 stars. I listened to the book at 1.35 times speed to match my listening preference. I listened to it twice. I'm augmenting the book with the author's podcasts at brainoverbinge dot com to ensure I don't get tripped up somewhere else. In her free ebook she lists the ~80 questions that are answered in her online course. I will take that too since I'm unraveling over 50 years of BED. I particularly enjoyed the interview Kathryn facilitated with Gillian Riley (Episode 64 on Kathryn's youtube channel). So Kathryn, thank you. Thank you for putting this "system" together. I'm excited to apply the principles learned here to other areas of my life. Now that the "stuckness" of BED and yo-yo dieting seems to be arrested and there is a lot of energy freed up. Can it really be so? If possible, I will update this review later (I'm not sure if Audible allows edits/updates on our reviews). Note: I appreciate the author *doesn't* say this is the only way to "recover." Unfortunately critics put those words in her mouth. If you struggle, I urge you to open your mind and listen to this story and this approach. Add this technology to your Wellness Toolbox. We all deserve to be free of the tyranny of BED.
