Book was OK but the narrator...
Revisado: 03-16-22
The narration drove me nuts. His voice inflections and high voice for characters was more than I could stand. Didn't finish the book. I enjoy narrators whose voices are like those in real life- the way people talk. This narrator isn't any of that. Ruined it for me.

Very slow and poor narrator for subject matter.
Revisado: 09-02-15
What would have made Badlands better?
Too slow. Took forever to get to the point or challenge of the story.
Has Badlands turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator tried to be the tough guy voice but didn't get it done.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Didn't finish it. Too slow, boring...fell asleep too many times.

Not the same
Revisado: 05-20-14
Would you try another book from William Kent Krueger and/or Buck Schirner?
Too slow, too boring, too many words. And the narration I just can't enjoy. Didn't finish the book.
What could William Kent Krueger have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Too many words and descriptions about what the characters were thinking.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Buck Schirner?
George Guidall
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.

Not a fan of the narrator
Revisado: 02-18-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would have enjoyed this, and other CJ Box books, with a different narrator. I can't help but get the feeling he's condescending in his approach and that the characters are all sniveling twits, at least that's how I feel while listening. I have the book in Whispersync and enjoy reading on the Kindle and then I groan through the Audible.

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Simply a remake of "Lord of the Flies" with the F Bomb and sex thrown in for good measure. Too long and too predictable. Don't bother.

This book is just too long. Can I put too many "too's" in a reveiw? Too long, too many characters, too much detail, too many thoughts, too many....

Too much
Revisado: 07-20-07
I very much enjoy modern detective novels. I enjoy listening to Scott Brick as the narrator of many of the books available on Audible. This is the first time in probably 200 books that I've enjoyed that I turned it off within the first hour of the book. Too graphic of sex, murder, thoughts of the characters, etc. In my opinion it was too much.

Historia
The boxes arrive mysteriously, one by one, at Channing Manheim’s fortified compound. The threat implicit in their bizarre, disturbing contents seems to escalate with each new delivery. Manheim’s security chief, ex-cop Ethan Truman, is used to looking beneath the surface of things. But until he entered the orbit of a Hollywood icon, he had no idea just how slippery reality could be. Now this good man is all that stands in the way of an insidious killer—and forces that eclipse the most fevered fantasies of a city where dreams and nightmares are the stuff of daily life.

It's OK, but please...
Revisado: 08-26-05
I enjoyed the book; I really did. However, it's like Hollywood where they take an enjoyable story and then they just have to throw in the graffic sex, body part descriptions, and strange sexual fantacies. I wish that these writers would just stick to what they are good at; writing stories. I don't like to skip fast forward through these types of descriptions. Expecially when they have nothing to do with the overall flow of the story.
