Surprisingly Entertaining!
Revisado: 04-14-12
Despite some negative reviews I read on other sites, I downloaded this book with lower expectations however this book turned into a nice little surprise.
At times, especially at the beginning, I found the author’s story-telling style a bit frustrating, specifically I found it lacking context and I struggled to understand. But once I got passed it (used to it?) this book was a thoroughly enjoyable ‘listen’. At times, I was laughing out loud at the author’s stories.
Although I have never worked as a consultant, I have worked with and hired them in my career and I found it easy to relate and understand the author’s stories as he poked fun at his industry – everything from his McKinsey interview (this was priceless) to his consultancy engagement with the tire manufacturer.
He pretty much confirmed my suspicions of consultants when defined “low-hanging fruit” as the things that the client could do themselves but are usually too lazy to do it on their own. He definitely nailed that one!
This is my first audio book narrated by Johnny Heller. He too has an interesting narrative style, sounding a bit old-school but his style worked well with this book and I am going to search out other titles that he narrates.
I recommend this book - not just to those who hire consultants or thinking about being a consultant but to anyone looking for a lighter entertaining ‘read’.
Please note that while the Audible release date is January 2012, this book was actually published (in print) in 2005, which makes it 7 years old now. As a result, the references the author makes in the book are at times, a bit dated.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

This is book is very well written and more importantly, it is very well narrated (I’d put they enjoyment of Denis Boutsikaris’ voice right up there with the likes of Malcolm Gladwell’s).
The author’s research on this subject and second-to-none and her analysis unfold systematically, introducing the characters, one by one, and tying together fascinating stories along the way. Like any great book, I had a difficult time ‘turning it off’. I highly recommend it.
