Historia
It's the most anticipated event of the decade—Big Lou and Fat Bob's wedding—and everyone is invited! But the relative peace and tranquillity of 44 Scotland Street is about to be disrupted. Domineering Irene is set to return for a two-month stay, consigning young Bertie to a summer camp. Not content with that, she somehow manages to come between the enigmatic nun, Sister Maria-Fiore dei Fiori di Montagna, and her friend, the hagiographer, Antonia Collie.

Historia
Millions of Amor Towles fans are in for a treat as he shares some of his shorter fiction: six stories based in New York City and a novella set in Golden Age Hollywood. The New York stories, most of which take place around the year 2000, consider the fateful consequences that can spring from brief encounters and the delicate mechanics of compromise that operate at the heart of modern marriages.

Historia
Life for Bertie seems to be moving at a pace that is rather out of his control. In Drummond Place gardens, it seems that Olive has their future together all planned out. Meanwhile, upstairs at 44 Scotland Street, Bertie’s father Stuart is powerless to stop overbearing Irene and her motion for Bertie to travel to Aberdeen on a three-month secondment.

Heartwarming
Revisado: 03-04-22
In dark times, the constant amusement and uplifting tone helps my spirits to stay aloft. Upon finishing, I forwarded Bertie et al to our dear young friend traveling to Scotland today. Her purpose is a journalism project. One can learn a lot from Alexander McCall Smith.

The veneer of civilization
Revisado: 09-07-17
Is so thin. Charlottesville, VA is exemplary in historical regression in a negative sense. The aggressive display is horrible foreboding. Margaret Atwood helps to raise global and local awareness. They will always be with us. The primitive brain is easily accessed.
And it reminded me of Catholic school in the 1950's.
