Tired of the colonialism bit
Revisado: 01-31-22
Interesting storyline. However, so very tired of having colonialism and cancel culture shoved down my throat. There is a LOT of that in this book. If you can get past that, it's entertaining.

Wonderful, life story of 2 besties and their lives
Revisado: 11-21-21
It started a little slow for me, but picked up after Ch 5. I can relate with the main character and her love & fierce protection for her best friend. Wanting to help her and imagining they'd be old ladies and still each other's best friend. Very tearful at the end. didn't end as I expected. Reminds you that life is precious. You only get one life. Use it wisely. Love people, care, spend time, nurture and ultimately things will be ok.

Super sad story
Revisado: 09-23-18
Narrator did a great job with the story. It's a super sad story about a girl in Mexico and her existence. They live an hour outside Acapulco in the jungle. Cartel men are sent in to take the young girls and use them for whatever purpose they'd like. The whole trajectory is dismal and doesn't leave you with much of anything you can do about the situation.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Gripping true story of indomitable human spirit
Revisado: 08-15-18
Incredible true story of a young girl growing up on a mountain in Idaho with survivalist orthodox Mormon parents. She goes on to, against most every type of physical, mental, spiritual odds, get into Brigham Young University and a PhD from Cambridge. Narrator was awesome! If you've ever had someone you're close to in your life who makes you doubt your own experience, your own reality, you will relate to this story. Ms. Westover has an incredible testimony! I wish her all the joy and success in the world!

some great imagery; otherwise what's the point?
Revisado: 07-14-18
The narrators did a great job with the subject matter given. However, it starts with the end in mind, then just catches you up to how they got there. sad story. Not sure of the point of the book?
