Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

Slang English makes it harder to enjoy
Revisado: 10-07-23
Just a personal preference, the backwood speaking style makes enjoying this book difficult. I found myself having to read the spark notes to understand some of what has happened, and then found that I missed what was going on in some parts.
It does seem like it would be a grand adventure and probably quite entertaining if retold in today’s English.
I understand it’s a classic, but it’s just not my favorite.
Elijah wood did okay. He performed some parts very well, and some were just okay.
All in all, 3 stars. I can mark this off my list, and will likely never read again.

Huge disappointment
Revisado: 01-15-21
I am a huge fan of this series. I have given the first 3 books, all 5 five stars. This one, however, was crazy dull.
The plot does not exist. It is a book that take your favorite characters and all your hopes and throws them down the drain. The characters end up regressing, and you're left wondering why in the world this book even exists. Really, why?
On a separate note, the narrator, Amanda Leigh Cobb, keeps the voices the same for all the previously known characters, but LO AND BEHOLD, if it was a new character that had a speaking part, she made them all British. LOL. I literally laughed every time there was a new character, because they spoke with a British accent. Like.. okay.. ? lol
Anyway, I will read A Court of Silver Flames and hope it gives me everything I need. I have high hopes.
But rest assured, you can quite literally skip this one. It does nothing. N O T H I N G for the story. -- So don't even worry about it. Just skip on ahead. You're welcome.

Okay story - boring narrator
Revisado: 02-06-20
The story was okay. I understand that it was meant to be uplifting, but it fell flat. It never enveloped you or made you really care. The narrator was so boring- sounding like a high school kid reading out loud in class.
It was an okay enough story, but I probably wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Heavy
Revisado: 03-25-18
It is such a heavy tale, but it is an important story that should be told.
Excellent writing and excellent performance.
If you have the courage to bear the weight of this heavy subject matter, then you should steal yourself and read this book.

Overacted-Beginning to bore
Revisado: 03-10-18
I want to love it..but it is starting to bore me.
Best actor is the one who plays Derek. He's awesome.
Sofia is okay.
The rest breathe heavy and over act.
Every word and sentence is too dramatic.
I think I will stop this series now.
It just drones on and on... and I'm losing interest. It has great potential...

This is the story of Gus losing himself, finding himself, and healing along the way. "The honest-to-God truth is I don't even know how to function anymore. Bright Side wasn't only my best friend, she was like my other half - the other half of my brain, the other half of my conscience, the other half of my sense of humor, the other half of my creativity, the other half of my heart. How do you go back to doing what you did before when half of you is gone forever?"

A stand alone, even as a sequel.
Revisado: 02-27-18
This was pretty good. It's a "sequel" to Bright Side, but it also works just fine as a standalone. I actually read this a year and a half after I read Bright Side.
The narrator for Gus is perfect for him, (but not so hot on the other characters.) His female character voices are basically all the same.
Toward the end, the story seemed a little stretched, but I was happy overall. I couldn't put it down.
Enjoy!
Would recommend for 17+ due to language and adult situations.

The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Meh
Revisado: 02-14-18
First, the voice actors were one trick ponies. They basically sounded the same for every character.
Actor for Abe : did not change voice for any other part (male or female). I couldn't tell who was speaking in the dialogue parts.
Noah: his woman voice is the same for everyone, which is an old woman in a rocker voice. Doesn't matter if it's a 20 year old Gracie, or his not-so-old mother. They both sound 80 and decrepit.
Gracie: same voice and voice patterns for each character.
It was just poor.
The story was mediocre, unnecessarily drawn out, and hard to listen to.
Writing was also mediciore... the things these people would say in their dialogues were so bland and "filler" words.
I wouldn't waste your time on this one.
