Inspiring story, beautifully written. Even the details about the boat building, waterways and other logistics are described in a way to keep you engaged. Very interesting and well narrated. I do wish the narrator was a little more familiar with the pronunciations of local towns, waters, etc but it wasn’t too distracting.

I don’t actually know if the stories are any good, I couldn’t listen to the narration. I’ve listened to iiKane before, but she read as a socially awkward character, so I never noticed how choppy she is. This is supposed to be sexy, dark, covert, and it just isn’t. She reads it like a kids book, doing all the voices, punctuation, and drama, and I couldn’t get past it to hear the story.

Miss Novik is an amazing writer. She could spin a tail about anything and I think I’d listen closely. Temeraire walked right into my heart and stuck. The world miss Novik spins is easily imagined and the personalities and relationships make it all seem so real. This book is a gem.
As an audio book, it was exceptional. Simon Vance used such emotional delicacy it just added a beautiful layer to an already great tale.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This was my first Eloisa James book. I found it as a recomendation online. I liked how Eloisa writes, the characters weren't flat and the rhythm of the story felt natural. I'm tempted to give her books another chance but I was very irritated with the characters and their relationship. After the marriage, he was verbally and emotionally abusive. I read romance as escapism and to hear a good love story. I've enjoyed dark romances as well but I expect strife and redemption, for people to make mistakes and there to be forgiveness but this was much more disfunctional and instead of there being healing and growth, she just was glad he decided to keep her. He calls her a whore and a trollop and that she is dirty and her behavior inappropriate. He says she is a liar and a cheater and threatens to take her children. This is only the beginning of the vitriol he spews at her. Her response should have been stronger. I could take it if she stood up for herself, if she called him on it and there was some consequence but it just seems so smoothed over, he doesn't have to earn her back at all.

What could Eloisa James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I need the female to be willing to stick up for herself more. Show more backbone and self worth. Victims aren't sexy, neither is watching a kicked puppy. Or, don't let your men slide from being a heel to being straight out abusive if you want to keep your females so delicate.

What three words best describe Susan Duerden’s voice?

I'm not a big fan. Susan has a clear strong voice but she ends every sentence on a rhythmic low note and it seems overly dramatic and is distracting.

Any additional comments?

I'm not usually so negative in a review. Again, I like how Eloisa writes and so it was extra dissappointing to see how she writes her characters. I want to know if this is her usual format or did this one just go awry?

I love Anne Stuart books. The Ice series was fantastic. I also really enjoyed her historical romances. I like the dark hero in these books. They are a little edgier than a typical romance and still give me my HEA.
I didn't care for the female lead in the story. She wasn't just naive but obtuse and immature, her multiple comebacks of "I hate you" and "did I run over your dog", felt like the writing was a little lazy.
I will continue to read and re-read my Anne books but I probably won't revisit this one.

This was a great, fresh take on a classic tale. I liked Cinder and Kai very much. For this being the first book in a series, the author did a good job fleshing out the characters, even the supporting cast had more depth than just good or evil. I am excited to see where the story takes me next and will be starting Scarlet immediately.

I like Linda Howard. She's written some books that I thoroughly enjoyed. This wasn't one of them. Her writing style works for me, the characters, how they are introduced, setting the scene...all good. Unfortunately in this story, her female lead spent too much time whining and throwing tantrums for me to ever like her. I spent all my time rolling my eyes and thinking "this again?". The male lead was stoic and gruff and "unreadable" and spent all his time chasing her and ignoring her pleas of no. The man-handling and constant no's into uncontrollable yes's rubbed me wrong for a modern day romance. I kind of expect that in my 80's romance but in current it just felt misogynistic. I haven't given up on Linda Howard's books but I chalk this one up to a loss.

This book was a little outside my norm but was recommended to me by friends.
Hounded, book 1 in the series, was funny, engaging, and well written. I liked the characters a lot. Everyone had enough depth and personality to leave me wanting to get to know them better in future books.
I will definitely listen to the next book in the series. The narrator, Luke Daniels has a great voice to listen to, kept a great rhythm, gave each character enough distinction I could easily follow, and delivered the lines with timing that kept me laughing.

This purchase was a leap for me. The audio version was entertaining and the sound effects were kind of cheesy but I dug it.
The male voices, by Mr. James, were good and bad. He clearly wanted everyone to have there own voice but a couple sounded cartoonish. Overall I liked the characters both narrators brought to life and I liked that most of the reactions and behaviors read as true.
The story itself had more complexity than I'd have thought and a new world with people and politics were brought to life for me.
Overall, totally worth it and I will purchase the next in the series.

I enjoyed this book and recommend it as a follow up to The Rosie Project.
I had a little harder time getting into the story of Don and Rosie than I did in the first book but I still ended up laughing and trying not to cry just as before.
Rosie wasn't as likable to me through most of the story, she wasn't as tolerant of Don's quirks, but this book is really more about Don's journey into fatherhood.
Read it, better yet, listen to it, you'll like it.
