Historia
Few of us meet our dogs at Day One. The dog who will eventually become an integral part of our family, our constant companion, and our best friend is born without us into a family of her own. A puppy's critical early development into the dog we come to know is usually missed entirely. Dog researcher Alexandra Horowitz aimed to change that with her family's new pup, Quiddity (Quid). In this scientific memoir she charts Quid's growth from wee grub to boisterous sprite, from her birth to her first birthday.

Excellent for all dog owners
Revisado: 02-14-23
As a trainer and lifelong dog owner, this book made me happy. I think it would be great if more first time owners would read it BEFORE they get their puppy. It is a great look at the maturing of the puppy's brain and body over the first year.

First I thought it was just me...that with the weather I needed something with more activity. Then I tried it over the last week and find the book moves so slowly, my minds wanders. Then I have to go back and listen again. I have been at this book, listening on my 90 minute per day, country road commute for 6 days. I shows I still have over 6 hours left and I still don't have the basic plot down in my mind! The book is only 8 1/2 hours long. I should be done by now.
I don't think it was the narrator, although she is a bit breathy in her speaking. It's just slow and the plot is not developing quick enough for me.

Emerson Knight is introverted and eccentric and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he's also brilliant, rich, and (some people might say) handsome, or he'd probably be homeless. Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard Business and Harvard Law. Her aggressive Texas spitfire attitude has helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst with megabank Blane-Grunwald. At least Riley Moon thought it was her dream job, until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.

I can't get past the narrator's voice to listen to this book. I originally ordered the book on Amazon for my Kindle and couldn't get into it so thought I would listen to it while I'm driving. I can't get past the narrator's voice to get into the book so I'm giving up and I'm only a quarter through.

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

I didn't "get" the humor
Revisado: 04-05-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I knew some of the hardships in Ireland, but had not idea to the degree the people suffered. There are people who can see the humor in Frank McCourt's writing and I desperately looked for it, but alas, the book ended and I was totally depressed by his childhood.
Has Angela's Ashes turned you off from other books in this genre?
Absolutely, positively.
What about Frank McCourt’s performance did you like?
I loved the performance. It was his voice, knowing that he lived to a ripe old age, that kept me going and I finished the book.
Did Angela's Ashes inspire you to do anything?
YES. Listen at 1.5 speed so I could hurry through and finish the book! I loved the narration, but could not stand the hardships.

Great performance.
Revisado: 08-18-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Some, not all. Not a reflection on the writing. I wasn't hooked on the book. My husband could not stop listening. It is very dependent on the person who is listening. One of my clients, who is a business guru (who will does not allow Apple products in his business) couldn't get past the first 150 pages reading it. Perhaps listening would be easier?
Would you be willing to try another book from Walter Isaacson? Why or why not?
Absolutely. I believe the writing was excellent and the research was well done.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
By all standards, I believe this was an exceptional piece of research and excellent writing. My rating reflects the writing, quality of the reporting of the story to be told and the performance.
I don't like the man it was about any more or less after I listened to the book.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

This book is a TEN and I am hard to please.
Revisado: 08-18-12
What did you love best about 11-22-63?
The entire concept of this book, once I got into it, kept drawing me in. I couldn't stop listening to it. I couldn't get ahead of it by guessing. Mr. King kept me in suspense.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the "realness" of Jake/George. He was a real person to me. Someone I would have liked to hang out with.
Which character – as performed by Craig Wasson – was your favorite?
Jake/George
Any additional comments?
I had resistance to listening this book. I couldn't figure out why Steven King would be writing about the Kennedy assassination. Once my husband finally suggested it for the 50th time, I downloaded it thinking I would never listen to it. Then I ran out of books for my 45 minute commute, each way, on country roads, 3 days a week. Once I began listening, I found myself making excuses to drive somewhere ALONE just so I could listen. Honestly, my rating is 10. This from me who will stop listening to a book for very little reason and only write a review if I dislike the book.
I love this book. Wish it was longer, it kept me from speeding on my Oregon back road commute...in fact I would find myself driving slower.

A woman with a murky past who kills herself - or was it murder? A spoiled kid awash in gambling debt who thinks he can beat the system. A lovely woman whose life is about to splinter into a thousand fragments. A professional shoplifting ring working for the Mob, racking up millions from stolen goods. A wandering husband, rich and ruthless. A dirty cop so entrenched on the force he is immune to exposure. A sinister gangster, conscienceless and brutal. A lonely widower mourning the death of his lover, desperate for answers, which may be worse than the pain of his loss.

I can't keep track of the story lines!
Revisado: 03-31-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Drop some of the story lines! I have read or listened to all of the alphabet books by Sue Grafton, but honestly, I had a difficult time finishing this one. It's disappointing. Too many story lines going on and I lost track easily of who is doing what to whom! I don't remember ever getting sidetracked with her books before. I have at minimum a 45 minute drive twice a day over beautiful, but boring country roads. I listen at minimum 2 long books a month, with a couple days of music sprinkled in. With this book, however; I couldn't keep all the story lines straight in my head and found myself wanting to make a phone call or put on...heaven forbid...the radio. The book started out good, but I found myself wondering how/if it would tie together, and in the end, wondered why all the little sub-stories. To make the book longer?
Has V Is for Vengeance turned you off from other books in this genre?
Absolutely not! Not from this author either. I'll be back.
Which scene was your favorite?
In the first part...the shoplifting.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
uhhhhh....nope
Any additional comments?
Hated the description of the coyote dying in the trap. Had to fast forward through the graphic description as found myself with tears in my eyes...not good while driving 60 mph on a country highway.
