Historia
Ida Scudder was sure she would never follow in the footsteps of her medical missionary father. But when she witnessed Indian women dying because their religious beliefs didn't allow male doctors to treat them, Ida heard herself pray, "God, if You want me to, I will spend the rest of my life in India trying to help these women." Serving for nearly sixty years, Dr. Ida Scudder lived out the truth and compassion found in Christ.

Exciting biography of Ida Scudder!
Revisado: 03-13-24
i couldn't put this book down. Read how the young Ida Scudder was influenced by U S. culture and wanting to fit in with her friends there. Early in her life her choices would make the difference between serving herself or serving others. Ida's family also served in India, where her father was a doctor and her mother helped run the clinic. God revealed to Ida the great need in India for women doctors because of the culture not allowing men doctors to see a pregnant woman who needed help with a difficult delivery of their baby. Many women died because of this taboo. Learn how Ida Scudder decided to become a doctor and her journey through medical school and back to India. Her family and faith is shared through many trials. One story is about a car sent to her in pieces. This would help her see more patients, but would the people overcome their fear of a car they have never seen? Her driver had to learn to drive too. She is remembered and loved for blazing new medical practices to meet the great needs of the people of India. Read and discover the trials of Ida Scudder who received her M.D. in 1899 from Cornell Medical College, then returned to Vellore, India.

Historia
If You Can Keep It is at once a thrilling review of America's uniqueness, and a sobering reminder that America's greatness cannot continue unless we truly understand what our founding fathers meant for us to be. The book includes a stirring call-to-action for every American to understand the ideals behind the "noble experiment in ordered liberty" that is America. It also paints a vivid picture of the tremendous fragility of that experiment and explains why that fragility has been dangerously forgotten.

Kept My Attention
Revisado: 11-12-21
Eric Metaxas narrates this important reminder that freedom is a gift we should cherish. There are miracles behind they birth of America from the Indian, Squanto, who spoke English, returning to his homeland and helping the pilgrims survive the first winter to the founding fathers putting aside their differences to come together for a purpose beyond themselves, therefore forming the constitution of the United States of America. Yet they also understood that free men must love their country, America, or it will not stay free. Inspiring to learn more details about my country's history in a respectful even heart won way. Eric shares about his family coming to America and seeing Lady Liberty for the first time through the eyes of his parents. I enjoyed the many quotes that relate to each chapter so well.

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

Purpose Brings Joy in any Situation
Revisado: 09-10-21
Even worthy of rereading! Here you will see God's love and compassion through the many choices of the Ten Boon family. They hid their Jewish friends in their Holland home forming their underground work during the beginning of the German Nazi leadership of Hitler. They were able to get 100 ration cards that allowed food for the hidden Jewish people.
The many quotes from Corrie and Betsy's father, Casper ten Boom are one good reason to read or hear this book. Betsy had a gift of knowing how to make any place reflect hope. Flowers were arranged in vases; singing was led; a favorite food shared; personal questions of concern asked of the clock shop clients. These were part of her purpose in reaching many with the love and truth of Jesus.
Eventually the Ten Boom's were arrested and sent to concentration camps. But ministry does not stop when suffering is a daily part of life. Corrie and Betsy shared kindness and love in many inconvenient risky ways, teaching from God's Word in group settings where silence is expected yet even fleas provided protection. This contrast to hate shined a light in very dark places changing lives with the hope of Christ.

Historia
In this remarkable recording, C. S. Lewis shows why millions of readers have acclaimed him the greatest spokesman for Christianity in the 20th century. In a resonant, baritone voice, Lewis explores the nature of the four Greek words that are translated love in English: storge (affection), philia (friendship), eros (sexual or romantic love) and agape (selfless love).

Hearing C. S. Lewis
Revisado: 03-17-19
Like sitting in a university couse with C. S. Lewis as the professor! This 1958 recording is a unique opportunity. He is clear in his British accent. I will listen again just for the experience. His teaching on the four loves defines the Greek better than anyone I've heard.

Very entertaining even the second time as an Audible book. Aslan sends two from our world on a mission, not unlike how God sends us out to use our gifts for His glory. Captivating story as are all the Chronicles of Narnia.

This third in the series audio book was wonderfully read. Revisited the Chronicles of Narnia in the author's order rather than the published order. Loved the surprises in this book!

How wonderful to watch creation begin in Narnia!
Revisado: 12-13-18
We are drawn in to follow the children into the other worlds of imagination. We enter a dark world before Narnia is created and watch Aslan, the lion, bring Narnia to life in his song! I am listening to the Chronicles of Narnia in the author's original order, this being the first. These books by C.S. Lewis are always entertaining and full of meaningful parallels of you want to find them. They remind us to highly value wonder. imagination, and creativity. I also find myself privileged to imagine meeting a powerful creator who is not so tame, but is approachable. He rewards loving others at personal cost. Come discover good and evil in this dangerous journey into the world of Narnia! Even though I've read these books before, the narrators bring these adventures to life as we hear them presented so well.
