God's. I love this series! The only thing wrong with this is that now I have to wait for the next installment. Listen to the entire Spooky series from the beginning. I think I will, just to help me wait for the next one. Great stories. great characters, and perfect performance by the reader.

A fascinating and comprehensive summary of the current state of this intriguing subject. Highly recommended! Can't wait for more...

The reader's inflection was so odd that I found it impossible to pay attention to the story. He reads every phrase and every sentence in the exact same quirky intonation which was so distracting that I couldn't stay with it. Yet, I knew I'd heard something similar before... Valley Girl? No, not quite. Then it hit me: it's the exact intonation that Stephanie, the maid from the old "Newhart" show used to speak in when she was annoyed, which was almost always. Maybe I shouldn't have rated the story one star, because I found the reader's monotonous performance so irritating that I couldn't attend to the actual words.

Maybe it's not fair for me to review this, but just to let others know before they purchase that this is a very specialized piece aimed at men into roleplaying daddy and baby roles with spanking and diapers and even wetting yourself! Not to judge people who are but this is of no interest to me and I wish I'd known this going in.

I really hate to stop a book I've started, especially to criticise it. I feel you have to give it a chance to redeem itself. However, four hours was all I could take. Seemingly endless boring tedium punctuated with tasteless bouts of violent carnage, rape.and genocide. No characters I could possibly care about, no engaging story lines: just empty, vapid prose that erupts without warning into nauseating cruelty before dropping back into mind numbing tedium. By it's description, I had hoped to be starting a quirky, enjoyable new series. No such luck. Give this one a miss.

In a world exactly like ours except that magic and magical beings are accepted as part of everyday life, a relatively powerful fae/human hybrid barely eakes out a modest living as a P.I. The fact that he's also gay in a world that completely accepts this is refreshing. It never becomes an issue. Instead, these things are part of the background in a storyline that is driven by plot rather than identity. An engaging story with good characters and an excellent performance. Sometimes sexually explicit, which I also enjoyed!

Overall I enjoyed this, but the seeming inability of the protagonist, Bear, to learn from past mistakes became grating toward the end. In spite of having the repeated experience of nearly blowing friendships and other relationships by throwing whiny temper tantrums for no good reason, he continues to do this right up to the end of the book. ANYBODY would have learned from their mistakes long before this. While it bordered on ruining the book for me, and nearly made me give up about half way through, I stuck it out and can say it was a net positive, but just barely. Performance of the narrator was excellent!

More great stuff from Jim Butcher! I've had very mixed feelings about James Marsters' various acting roles, but his performances of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files books are terrific! Can't get enough...

I was introduced to William Gibson by a short story featuring the fascinating character Molly Millions in Omni magazine 35 years ago and I've loved him ever since! I read this book in paperback way back then and it was great to revisit it!

I was looking forward to starting a great new series in this genre, but this isn't it. The writing is generally awkward as the author regularly misuses words on whose meaning he is unclear. I also have to agree with the many other reviewers who were put off by the protagonist's alcoholism: a weird trait in someone we're supposed to empathize with. Max's attitude toward women he's attracted to feels creepily immature, his internal monologue about them feeling like that of a fifteen year old. This entire book seemed like a set up and introduction for future installments, which would have been fine if it would have had at least some focused story of its own. Even the performance of Luke Daniels, which I've enthusiastically enjoyed in Nazri Noor's "Dark Mage" series misses the mark here. The overabundance of characters have been given a collection of weird accents (the British accents being wildly inaccurate) and speech impediments, presumably to help differentiate them but instead only managing to be distracting and irritating to listen to. I won't be continuing on in the series, and urge you to give this one a miss. Hope I can find something more satisfying.
