Historia
Hours later, the man’s cold body lies in the city mortuary, alongside the woman he couldn’t save. And his sister, unconventional nurse Gemma Tate, tracks down troubled police inspector Sebastian Bell to unravel the truth. Sebastian has enough pressure to solve the murder of an aristocratic heiress without Gemma meddling in his case. But the cryptic sentences she brings him from her brother’s notebook could be a crucial lead. If only they knew what “milky way” meant.

Narrator ruins the book
Revisado: 04-18-25
I have no idea if this book was written well, or if the story was intriguing, or how it was going to turn out. I only listened to the first two chapters of this book, and the narrator was so bad I couldn’t continue so this is a wasted credit.

Weird
Revisado: 10-11-24
This book was supposed to be funny-but it wasn’t. The story line makes no sense. The reader is as bad as the book. I listened to it at a slightly faster speed to see if the phrasing of the reader might improve. I thought there would be character development within the residents of the nursing home, but there was no development at all. I bought this for $6.99 and even on sale it was a waste of money. Don’t waste your time.

“Light Romance” ?????
Revisado: 08-08-24
Sea of Ruin describes itself as a “light romance” but what it really is is smut and light porn with a few moments of adventure and piracy. I had thought that a period piece with a woman pirate captain would be an interesting premise and I was sadly disappointed. This book is not well written or well researched and I’m a little disappointed in myself for listening to it. I kept waiting for a story.

Fantastic
Revisado: 07-11-24
This is a book richly written, whose characters glow with love and reality, dreams and forgiveness. I laughed and I also cried and I think I must read it rather than listen to it again.
If you choose to read, or listen, you will be rewarded.

Historia
Three shotgun blasts rip through the side of Officer Jim Chee's trailer as the Navajo Tribal Policeman sleeps. He survives, but the inexplicable attack has raised disturbing questions about a lawman once beyond reproach. Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn wonders why Chee was a target and what connection the assault has to a series of gruesome murders that has been plaguing the reservation. But the investigation is leading them both into a nightmare of ritual, witchcraft, and blood . . . and into the dark and mystical domain of evil beings of Navajo legend, the "skinwalkers."

Not George Guidall
Revisado: 05-30-24
Tony Hillermans books are always good. But I do think it’s worth noting that the narrator was NOT Guidall. I’m not sure who it was, but maybe the recording should match the correct reader.

Though she was born into poverty, Inés Suárez, a seamstress in 16th-century Spain, embodies the same restless hope and opportunism that fuels her nation’s conquest of the Americas. Learning that her shiftless husband has vanished, Inés uses his disappearance to embark on her own adventure. It is a journey will lead her to Pedro de Valdivia - a conquistador who becomes the first royal governor of Chile - and to a love that not only changes her life but the course of history.

History of Chile?
Revisado: 01-29-24
I have no idea if the historical details in this book are actually true, but I found it interesting. Interesting and brutal. We are preparing to go on our 4th trip to South America and I know how horribly the people were treated as the Spanish conquered Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. Much of the book rings true.
I think you would need to want to read this book if going to Chile as I am. I’m not sure it’s a book people would just pick up to read. I think the translation leaves much to be desired and the reader, though accurate in her pronunciation of all things Spanish, is quite boring.

Heartbreaking and Heartwarming
Revisado: 01-06-24
Even though being fairly well informed about Germany’s invasion of Poland, there was much I had not known. How hard the Poles fought was not surprising. The Polish Catholics never gave up their faith in the church and their country and were instrumental in breaking the Soviet Union. An amazing people in a country so beleaguered by invasion who never gave up hope in their nation. This book captures the feelings of pride and fierce desire for freedom.

Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Revisado: 11-14-23
This book is wonderful! I loved the slower pace and explanations of a culture I know do little about. And, best of all, the author reads the book and this is the first time the author reads their own book that I loved how he read!

Historia
Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

Can’t get enough of DC
Revisado: 08-31-23
I was so happy to see there was another “episode” of DC Smith. It started beautifully. Grainger can paint strong images with his words. His books are different from other
mysteries. I think a little slower paced and more thoughtful. I really enjoy these books.
