Historia
Here in a single volume is the entire, unabridged recording of Gibbon's masterpiece. Beginning in the second century A.D. at the apex of the Pax Romana, Gibbon traces the arc of decline and complete destruction through the centuries across Europe and the Mediterranean. It is a thrilling and cautionary tale of splendor and ruin, of faith and hubris, and of civilization and barbarism. Follow along as Christianity overcomes paganism... before itself coming under intense pressure from Islam.

Historia

Historia
Volume Two of Appian's Roman History consists of his incredible chronicle of the Roman Civil War, which began in 133 B.C. with the conflict between the plebeians and the aristocracy over the attempted land reforms of the brothers Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus. Violence continues on and off for the next century, ending only in 31 B.C. with the victory of Octavius over Mark Antony at the naval battle of Actium.

The narration includes many datails. This is about betrayal, honor, brabery, boundless ambition.

Historia
The Achaemenid Persian kings ruled over the largest empire of antiquity, stretching from Libya to the steppes of Asia and from Ethiopia to Pakistan. In Persians, historian Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones tells the epic story of this dynasty and the world it ruled. Drawing on Iranian inscriptions, cuneiform tablets, art, and archaeology, he shows how the Achaemenid Persian Empire was the world’s first superpower—one built, despite its imperial ambition, on cooperation and tolerance. This is the definitive history of the Achaemenid dynasty and its legacies in modern-day Iran.

A welcomed review of the Persian Empire
Revisado: 08-06-22
I was looking for a book with this contente.
The author collects various sources about the empire: inscriptions, greek accounts, clay tablets, etc... To flesh out a narrative of persian history.
It also discusses the administration of the empire.
A good pick if you are interested in Persia.

Historia
Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills 3,000 years of the history of power into 48 well-explicated laws. This bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other infamous strategists. The 48 Laws of Power will fascinate any listener interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.

An Emontional, Poorly Argued, Machiavellian Essay
Revisado: 04-24-22
The author backs his ideas by reaching out to historical examples. This leads him to make two major errors:
1. Survivor bias.
You won't hear of the people who followed these principles and failed.
2. Confirmation bias.
This is contemplated in the book with 'reversals'. But it only highlights the wakness of the arguments.
The author also displays a simplistic understanging of both history and historic figures. Whom he mainly portray as conn artists or complete fools.
Why two stars?
The book's subject is interesting.
The narrator
Does a good job.

Historia
By understanding the dramatic story of the Ottoman Empire - from its early years as a collection of raiders and conquerors to its undeniable power in the 15th and 16th centuries to its catastrophic collapse in the wreckage of the First World War - one can better grasp the current complexities of the Middle East. Befitting a story of such epic scope and grandeur, every lecture is a treasure trove of historical insights into the people, events, themes, and locales responsible for shaping the story of this often-overlooked empire.

A nice overview of ottoman history.
Revisado: 03-23-22
This is a straight forward narrative of Ottoman history. I considered an appropiate introduction to the subject. It lacks deeper analysis of alternative interpretations, but that could be left to another more involved book.
The genocide of the XX century is discused in its context.
