On May 14th, 2003, the familiar risk taken by hopeful immigrants illegally crossing the Mexican-American border into the United States took a tragic turn.
At least 74 illegal immigrants bound for Houston were crammed inside a sweltering truck trailer, which was found abandoned near Victoria, Texas. In the end, nineteen individuals died. Bodies were found stacked upon each other, each human body slumped over the other in what was described as a “human heap of desperation”.

Jorge Ramos is an amazing journalist. I applaud him for taking on this horrible event that happened May 2003. His book tells a story that unfortunately is all too common and happens very often. Its a sad story about hard working immigrants and the lengths they will go and the danger they risk to search for a better future for them and their families. Thank you audible for making this available in both english and spanish.

This is a great book to read and even more beautiful story to hear read to you by the author. He's a great story teller. This was a moving story, i'm so glad i downloaded the audible version.

I absolutely love this!!! Every morning i get up, download this to my ipod and take off for my morning commute. My commute is an hour on the train every morning, which is just enough time to hear this entire nyt presentation. Its great - i hear all the headlines, i'm on top of the news and if something i heard caught my attention, i look it up later during the day online. This is great for anyone who doesn't have enough time to read the NYT, this will deffinately keep you in the loop and up to date on everything from world news to sports.
