Hunter identified something in the American Culture that at the time of the publication of the book would have seemed plausible but perhaps decades away from coming to fruition. I think this ability to see forward and past his own time was one of his greatest gifts as a writer. Hunter had the ability to take the pulse of the culture in which he lived and see where it all might lead. Miss your voice, Hunter.

The applications apply to more than Martial Arts, and Martial Arts applies to more than movement. Zen and Martial Arts is a way of being a fully realized person. This book bears more than a single reading (or listen).

Historia
In the stories that make up Oblivion, David Foster Wallace joins the rawest, most naked humanity with the infinite involutions of self-consciousness--a combination that is dazzlingly, uniquely his. These are worlds undreamt-of by any other mind. Only David Foster Wallace could convey a father's desperate loneliness by way of his son's daydreaming through a teacher's homicidal breakdown ("The Soul Is Not a Smithy"). Or could explore the deepest and most hilarious aspects of creativity.

Historia
Author David Brooks explores the four commitments that define a life of meaning and purpose: to a spouse and family, to a vocation, to a philosophy or faith, and to a community. Our personal fulfillment depends on how well we choose and execute these commitments. Brooks looks at a range of people who have lived joyous, committed lives, and who have embraced the necessity and beauty of dependence. He gathers their wisdom on how to choose a partner, how to pick a vocation, how to live out a philosophy, and how we can begin to integrate our commitments into one overriding purpose.

Historia
Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Great Advice For Anyone Who Speaks
Revisado: 09-27-22
I had the pleasure of being a student of Dr. Nelson. He left a lasting impression—in the best way possible. I read his book preparing to interview SD County Superintendent of the year. You know what, this book provides great advice for anyone who speaks with other humans—even if the conversation is not a formal interview. Thanks Dr. Nelson.
