Historia
When 10-year-old Dinah Kirkham saw her father leave their Manchester home in the middle of the night, she asked when he would be back. “Soon,” he replied. But he never came back. On that night in 1829, John Kirkham laid the foundation of his daughter’s certainty that the only person Dinah could ever really trust was herself.

Good, but not great
Revisado: 02-15-11
Yeah, this was good until I started doing some googe searches. He takes a lot of "artistic license" and his own interpretation of history. But I guess I have to cut him some slack, this book was apparently written in the mid 80's and since them there have probably been new research. So I will assume he was making the best assumption he could based on what he had at the time of this novel's writing. But the story was compelling and far from boring. Good book, just not great. Don't believe everything you read in it as "gospel truth".

It is an outfit so secret that only a handful of people know it exists, and some of those people have names like Churchill and Roosevelt. The mission of Watrehouse and Detachment 2702 - commanded by Marine Raider Bobby Shaftoe - is to keep the Nazis ignorant of the fact that Allied Intelligence has cracked the enemy's fabled Enigma code. In the present, Waterhouse's crypto-hacker grandson, Randy, is attempting to create a "data haven" in Southeast Asia....

Not as good as the first one...
Revisado: 06-16-10
I LOVED the first book and I am a huge Nelson DeMille fan, but this one just didn't do it for me. It had a harder edge than the first book, but less action in my opinion. There was a lot of needless F-Bombs dropping too. It was just OK for me.

SOLID!
Revisado: 06-07-10
This was a solidly good book! Plenty of action and quite a bit of character development to give the story some good depth. Keep in mind that this author can jump around - all your questions get answered eventually in this book or the next.

Good story, but too hard of an edge for my tastes
Revisado: 06-07-10
This one was good, but there was a lot of needless junk in it. Too much hard sexual references and details for my tastes. The Author could have easily gotten the same ideas across without going into so much details. But the story and action were both good aside from the above caveats.

More of a set up book for the rest of the series
Revisado: 03-25-08
This one (in the series) has the feel of a set up for the rest of the books that come after it. On its own it is a good book, but if it is taken as a piece of the large picture of the series then it really keeps your interest. It still has some good action, mystery, and suspense. The characters introduced and developed end up playing key roles in the plots to come in future books. For these reasons, I have to take a starr off my review even though I loved the book. I love the series! If you like the 'Prince Roger' series by David Weber and John Ringo then you will love these too!

Historia
Dying is easy. Coming back to life is hard. Miles Vorkosigan should know - having done both once already. Thanks to his quick-thinking staff and the artistry of a medical specialist, Miles' first death wasn't his last. But it does take some recovery, a fact he has been reluctant to admit. When he makes the mistake of returning too soon to duty, he finds himself summoned to face the security chief, Simon Illyan. But Miles' worst nightmares about Illyan are nothing compared to Illyan's own nightmares.

Great action, plot, and characters!
Revisado: 03-25-08
I skipped all the previous novels in this series and picked it up cold from this one. Well this one set the hook. I really loved it! I liked the character development. I liked the action. I found some to detailed torture segments to be too detailed and I admit that on 2 or 3 occasions I fast forwarded because I could not take the hard core torture scenes (and I am an avid 24 series watcher). So that is the only reason I had to give this one 4 stars instead of 5. But all and all I really enjoyed this one and the books after this just got better and better. Love the series! If you like the 'Prince Roger' series by David Weber and John Ringo then you will love these too!
