Historia
Daniel Everett, then a Christian missionary, arrived among the Pirahã in 1977 - with his wife and three young children - intending to convert them. What he found was a language that defies all existing linguistic theories and reflects a way of life that evades contemporary understanding. The Pirahã have no counting system and no fixed terms for color. They have no concept of war or of personal property.

If you like books about the Amazon
Revisado: 01-14-24
I liked the insight into the Pirahas and how they lived, the first half is more exciting and adventurous. With the latter half focusing on intricate details of their language and theories of language as a whole. I didn’t care for the second part as much but it was well written. I just thought this book was a story of a great journey. Reader is good and entertaining so props for that.

Historia
In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles (micro-robots) has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive. It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey.

Crichton delivers again
Revisado: 09-18-22
Prey is a great look into a field of nanotechnology which Crichton has explored before. This journey has all the modern tech expected in his novels with a great storyline of saving the world in a time sensitive manor. Jurassic park is my favorite Crichton Nobel but this is darn tootin good as well.

Historia
In this powerhouse of suspense - as brilliantly imagined as Jurassic Park and The Ruins - scientists have made a startling discovery: A fragment of a lost continent, an island with an ecosystem unlike any they’ve seen before...an ecosystem that could topple ours like a house of cards. The time is now. The place is the Trident, a long-range research vessel hired by the reality TV show Sealife. Aboard is a cast of ambitious young scientists. With a director dying for drama, tiny Henders Island might be just what the show needs.

Pretty cool
Revisado: 12-22-20
I really liked most of the story, would have been cooler I think if they would have gone with something other than shrimp like chimeras but the narrator did a good job and it was an enjoyable listen.

One of my favorite books!
Revisado: 12-07-19
Crichton at his best. This is much better than the movie and full of suspense and science. I nerd out as he uses real world possibilities altered slightly to make the impossible possible. Life found a way 😏 only took off one star as the book gets choppy audio sometimes but that could just be audible or my Bluetooth earbuds. Worth the time and credit!
