Boring!
Revisado: 01-17-20
I have been an enthusuastic fan of this series. Not, however, of this latest. Too much philosphical musing and confusing meandering within the rather thin plot. Twice I thought I had somehow missed a segue, but, no, there was none. Just had to wait until I could pick up the storyline. Such as it was. I usually find these books charming. This one was just boring and often pointless despite attempts to make a point.

Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

More Moyes
Revisado: 01-12-20
Great characterizations, engaging action and story development. Definitely not a “romance” book! Now I will have to read more Moyes.
Julia Whelan’s reading was remarkable, necessitating multiple dialects and both male and female voices.

When Lewis Barnavelt, an orphan, comes to stay with his Uncle Jonathan, he expects to meet an ordinary person. But he is wrong. Uncle Jonathan and his next-door neighbor, Mrs. Zimmermann, are both witches! Lewis is thrilled. At first, watching magic is enough. Then Lewis experiments with magic himself and unknowingly resurrects the former owner of the house: a woman named Serenna Izard. It seems that Serenna and her husband built a timepiece into the walls - a clock that could obliterate humankind. And only the Barnavelts can stop it!

Engaging and Fun!
Revisado: 03-08-19
I usually don’t care for young adult fiction , but I tried this one because of good reviews and special price. I also am interested in the movie, but wanted to “read” the book first. It was a great listen—hard to put down. And sweet.

Once again, David Sedaris brings together a collection of essays so uproariously funny and profoundly moving that his legions of fans will fall for him all over again. He tests the limits of love when Hugh lances a boil from his backside, and pushes the boundaries of laziness when, finding the water shut off in his house in Normandy, he looks to the water in a vase of fresh cut flowers to fill the coffee machine.

More Romps with the Ridiculously Wealthy
Revisado: 07-13-17
Actually, this latest installment has much less retail orientation than previous books. Tying up many loose ends, the family back story is more fully developed. Having read the other two books, I was worried that an audio version would be somewhat confusing, with the many interwoven characters. No worry! It was as amusing and engaging as ever.

Captivating!
Revisado: 04-23-17
Wonderful and satisfying tale bringing lesser known history alive and lively. Descriptions are colorful without being tedious. A lifelong Texan, I very much enjoyed the travelogue through towns I know now, and can imagine in their early days. All this in the company of entertaining and believable characters.

Very different storyline than the usual Kellerman fare, but entertaining and filled with interesting characters. This isn't "edge of your seat", but I did find myself doing a lot more yard work so that I could prolong my listen.

Another Edge-of-Your-Seat installment
Revisado: 08-09-15
I am totally hooked on the Matthew Corbett series. Each book continues to thrillingly engage me in the action and intrigue, and, somehow, McCammon increases this with each tale. I feel like I have to take little relaxation breaks to "rest" between listens. I can drive for hours without fear of feeling drowsy because I get so involved in anxious anticipation of what will befall Matthew and his various companions in each chapter. The characters are well-developed, and the reader, Edoardo Ballerini, conveys this very effectively in his delivery. This book had many surprises. I am downloading Book Four as soon as I post this review. I must say, I get get more grocery shopping, watering, housecleaning, and driving done in order to extend listening time!

Captivating fantasy
Revisado: 07-08-15
I sprinkle my voracious reading of, and listening to, mysteries with an occasional side trip into fantasy. This rendering of The Graveyard Book was delightful. There is mystery and intrigue, but it is a relaxing and endearing tale populated by well-developed characterizations. The readers were, I thought, spot on! This is one of those Audible books that compelled me to find all kinds of extra, and prolonged, tasks to do around the house so that I could listen while I worked. I have started a list of my next reads by Mr. Gaiman.
