Historia
As the mists roll over the fens and enigmatic lights twinkle in the distance, only the locals know their way along the hidden paths through the mysterious watery terrain of one of England's most beautiful and sometimes dangerous places. Detective Matt Ballard may have retired but there's still plenty going on in the fens to keep him busy. Someone trashes an old lady's garden and daubs her isolated cottage with hateful graffiti. Emilia Swain seems to be totally harmless, so why is she being targeted?

Background noise
Revisado: 03-27-24
A departure from previous books that detailed a working detective and instead fleshed out more of the personal life of Matt Ballard. If you’ve appreciated her previous work, this is a new take that you’ll like.
However, there is a background noise in the recording through the entire book that will drive you absolutely up the wall. My suggestion is to sample it before purchase.

Becoming predictable
Revisado: 01-03-23
So far I’ve listened to three of the books in this series. The stories themselves are riveting and surprising which I enjoy. However, a repetitive theme is becoming quite predictable, and frankly quite annoying. Every book so far has a female investigator with some past issue of abuse - she is always smart, gorgeous and built. She gets partnered with a local who she at first hates, but he’s a Greek god so she falls in bed with him, they have epic sex and the author just goes on and on and on about how hot these two people are and has in depth descriptions of sexual encounters that are not humanly achievable in the real world. I’ve started just fast forwarding thru that nonsense. I’m fine with romance and sex in a novel but it’s to the point that it’s cut-and-paste from one book to the other.

Zzzzzz
Revisado: 08-17-21
Good book. Lots of details, which is good for true crime. But this book could have been monumentally shorter. Too much extraneous detail, repetitive detail, even so far as word for word paragraphs in more than one place. I don’t need to know the favorite breakfast of the lead detective or his wife’s bra size. Just way overboard on the back stories of people that weren’t even central to the story and a lot of skipping around in time and place and perspective. But I like true crime, so I hung in there til the end.

Historia
Goldengrove’s towers and twisted chimneys rose at the very edge of the peaceful Weald, a stone’s throw from the poisonous marshes and merciless waters of Rye Bay. Young Tabby Palethorp had been running wild there, ever since her mother grew too ill to leave her room. I was the perfect choice to give Tabby a good English education: thoroughly respectable and far too plain to tempt her lonely father, Sir Kit, to indiscretion. I knew better than to trust my new employer with the truth about my past. But knowing better couldn’t stop me from yearning for impossible things.

Loved the romantic writing style and the olde English way of speaking. The ending is a complete letdown. Will never get another book from this author.

Historia
Tia and Mike Baye never imagined they'd become the type of overprotective parents who spy on their kids. But their 16-year-old son, Adam, has been unusually distant lately, and after the suicide of his classmate, Spencer Hill they can't help but worry. They install a sophisticated spy program on Adam's computer, and within days they are jolted by a message from an unknown correspondent addressed to their son: "Just stay quiet and all safe."
Meanwhile, Betsy Hill is struck by a photo that appears to have been taken on the night of her son's death...and he wasn't alone.

Where do I begin?
Revisado: 12-18-20
One of the worst picks I’ve ever had on Audible. The story line was weak and convoluted. The ending is a complete let down and you’re left wondering why the author wasted paper. Many scenes are so protracted so as to be filler that you literally say “ok - I get it. Move on already!”
Then there’s the narration - which is excruciating to say the least.
Don’t waste a credit on this book.

Historia
The tragic story of Susan Powell and her murdered boys, Charlie and Braden, is the only case that rivals the Jon Benet Ramsey saga in the annals of true crime. When the pretty, blonde Utah mother went missing in December of 2009 the media was swept up in the story - with lenses and microphones trained on Susan's husband, Josh. He said he had no idea what happened to his young wife, and that he and the boys had been camping in the middle of a snowstorm.

Excruciating narration
Revisado: 11-16-20
I’ve always loved true crime and the book is not bad on its own. The narration was absolutely excruciating to listen to. I had to force myself to listen to the end. I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t been so interested in the topic. Listen to a sample to decide if you can take 52 chapters of the droning before you buy.

Historia
Less than 250,000 people live in the Northern Territory, an area more than twice the size of Texas. If you want to escape from civilisation, you don’t have to go far. But you can’t outrun the heat. Every year during October and November the sweltering climate can drive people wild; they call it ‘Suicide Season’, ‘Mango Madness’ or, more plainly, ‘The Build-up’. It’s during this blistering heat that Jim O’Connell’s body is found in a creek bed, mummified and with his genitals removed.

Historia
It's New Year's Eve, the final night of Virginia's bloodiest year since the Civil War, and another poor soul has turned up dead. Ted Eddings, a scuba diver and investigative reporter who was a favorite at the medical examiner's office, is found 30 feet below the Elizabeth River's icy surface. Kay Scarpetta, chief medical examiner for the state of Virginia, can't help but wonder why she received a phone call from someone reporting the death before the police were notified.

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-13-19
My first book by this author. Not a fan of her writing style. Story was nowhere close to believable (or even interesting) and the reader had a voice that grated on my nerves and made every minute excruciating.

Historia
It's the most dangerous case of Will Trent's career. He knows this from the moment he sets foot in the abandoned Atlanta warehouse where a body lies on the floor—the body of an ex-cop. Bloody footprints leading away from the scene reveal that another victim, evidently a woman, was carried away and has vanished into thin air. And, worst of all, the warehouse belongs to the city's biggest and most high-profile athlete—a local hero protected by the world's most expensive lawyers.

Have nothing better to do
Revisado: 06-03-19
interesting story line but very convoluted. The narrator was terrible. She spoke very slowly and therefore, combined with the excruciatingly over-descriptive interludes, I struggled to finish the book. Some chapters drug on and on with information not really needed and it was difficult not to fast forward. And the story line was a bit of a let down. You suffer through all the yammering and yet you wait in anticipation for all the nuances to come together and make the whole story make sense. Not so much. The ending was rather abrupt and it just wasn't a lock. You expect to get to the end and think "OMG that could totally happen!" I never got there - mine was more of "I waded through all the nonsense for this lame, sophomoric ending?" Hence the title of my review - have nothing better to do with your time before starting this book....
