Historia
More than a year after she helped save the world from the Sparnaxian invasion, Andrea Vernon is in a good place. Her boss is giving her greater responsibility and she’s getting to travel a lot (although her fill-in is hopeless at making coffee); things could be getting even more serious with her 8’ 4” superhero boyfriend, The Big Axe; and she has a really fun new BFF, Never More. Small issue, though, with that last item - Never More is a supervillain bent on world domination, and it looks as if nothing can stop her.

This is a highly entertaining continuation of Andrea Vernon's adventures and Bahni Turpin brings all the voices and accents to give the characters even more personality!

Historia
In Manhattan, a young grad student gets off the train and realizes he doesn't remember who he is, where he's from, or even his own name. But he can sense the beating heart of the city, see its history, and feel its power. In the Bronx, a Lenape gallery director discovers strange graffiti scattered throughout the city, so beautiful and powerful it's as if the paint is literally calling to her. In Brooklyn, a politician and mother finds she can hear the songs of her city, pulsing to the beat of her Louboutin heels.

So different; so good. Impeccable narration.
Revisado: 01-25-21
I had listened to N. K. Jemisin's Broken Earth Trilogy, also narrated by Robin Miles, and enjoyed it so much I have searched out her other works. This story is very different from that trilogy, and different from anything else I've read, but it is so compelling! And Robin Miles is brilliant--there's no question about which character you're hearing. She conveys the different tonal qualities of languages, not only the accents.

Vivid and exciting
Revisado: 03-15-20
The writing brought vivid images and deep characters. The narration brought it to life. The adventure kept my 12-year old son badgering me to keep the story going even after we got out of the vehicle.

Visual and melodic
Revisado: 03-10-20
I thought it might be confusing to listen to the two storylines switch back and forth, but it actually enhanced both stories to hear them in parallel. The narrative was lyrical and vivid. The narration brought the stories even more to life, so much emotion embedded in the characters. I will probably listen to this story again (once I work through more of my stack).

My kids and I enjoyed this unwilling-adventurer story. The characters were delightful and the narrator was excellent! It was a well-paced story with a lot of heart (& spelled out lessons at the end).
