Historia
Drawing from ancestral knowledge, as well as her experience as an attorney and activist, Sherri Mitchell addresses some of the most crucial issues of our day—including indigenous land rights, environmental justice, and our collective human survival. Sharing the gifts she has received from the elders of her tribe, the Penobscot Nation, she asks us to look deeply into the illusions we have labeled as truth and which separate us from our higher mind and from one another.

Everyone should read this book.
Revisado: 11-18-21
I found this book really impactful. It's a meaningful guide to finding purpose in the world, and restoring it back to health.
There were 4 places where the recording doubled over sentences or passages. It didn't detract much from my experience as a reader, but it was confusing.

Historia
A paradigm-shifting book in the vein of Sapiens that brings a crucial Indigenous perspective to historical and cultural issues of history, education, money, power, and sustainability - and offers a new template for living. As an indigenous person, Tyson Yunkaporta looks at global systems from a unique perspective, one tied to the natural and spiritual world. In considering how contemporary life diverges from the pattern of creation, he raises important questions. How does this affect us? How can we do things differently?

This book presents different perspectives of modern life, and provides alternate narratives to popular versions of history. Reading it expanded my mind and helped me make new connections.

Historia
If you’re having trouble solving a problem or reaching a dream, the problem isn’t you. It’s that you haven’t yet installed the one belief that changes everything. Marie’s mom once told her, “Nothing in life is that complicated. You can do whatever you set your mind to if you roll up your sleeves. Everything is figureoutable.” Whether you want to leave a dead end job, break an addiction, learn to dance, heal a relationship, or grow a business, Everything is Figureoutable will show you how.

Gets famous. Signs book deal. Considers content.
Revisado: 03-10-21
You know when someone signs a book deal, then figures out what they should write about? That's what this book felt like. It's full of advice from the author's perspective...which can be interesting at times, but is also pretty limited. The book stays pretty superficial and feels patronizing at times. It's not totally useless, but not earth-shaking either. I'd recommend getting Marie's perspective and content from her online show rather than this book.

Historia
In a quiet suburb of New Delhi, two next-door neighbors develop a friendship: one, a young woman engaged to be married, and the other, Nadine: a woman in her 60s living with her second husband. We follow these two women through their phone calls and visits together, diving deeper into Nadine's storied past: With her larger-than-life personality and proclivity to defy society's conventions, her insight weighs heavily on her young friend, about to face a major turning point of her own.

Pointless.
Revisado: 03-10-21
We kept waiting the whole story long to find out what the point was. There isn't one. It's basically about an old white self-justifying colonialist lady who should really just find a therapist. Also the narrator's inflection was so exaggeratedly sing-song that it was hard to understand the words.

Oversimplified, basic, and gendered
Revisado: 02-03-21
Although it says it's for Asperger's women of all ages, it's clearly aimed toward preteen girls and their parents. I found the content oversimplified, making sweeping generalizations about girls with Asperger's. It was also quite gendered. Although the author claims to despise gender roles, she includes advice for aspergirls to act and appear more socially acceptable, ie more 'feminine'. To the point where she compares dressing nicely and grooming to wearing a work uniform; if you want to get a date, dress for the job. No thanks. I didn't force myself to finish the book, and abandoned it partway through.

Historia
As medical director of the famed Preventive Medicine Research Institute, Lee Lipsenthal helped thousands of patients struggling with disease to overcome their fears of pain and death, and to embrace a more joyful way of living. In his own life, happily married and the proud father of two remarkable children, Lee was similarly committed to living his life fully and gratefully each day. Historia
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.
