Excellent book, awful narration

This book is excellent. Unfortunately, I found it very hard to maintain my attention on what the narrator was saying. He sounds like one of those computer programs that read text. I listened to samples of other books narrated by Bruce Turk, and they all sounded the same, as if they were read by robots.

Couldn't finish it

It's very rare that I give up on reading a book. Maybe an abridged version would be better. I don't think I will buy anything else by this author.

Too long

I generally don't like abridgements, but in this case I should have bought the abridged version (5h 53 min) instead of the unabridged version (51h 23min)

Worst Stephen Coonts book

The plot of this book is very complicated, with too many characters. The references to ship compartments and latitude/longitude coordinates require a chart to follow them. This kind of book does not good for audio.

Excellent narrator

I loved this audiobook. The Nevil Shute - Gordon Griffin combo made me feel as if I had gone back in time 90 years.

My only complaint is that the endings of the two love stories (Morris and Helen, Denison and Sheila) are missing. I regret that Nevil Shute decided to leave those parts to the reader's imagination.

Utterly implausible

The plot is utterly implausible, specially the ending. There was no need for the protagonists to be presidential candidates. The book is too short. And the audio wasn't very good.

This is an excellent book, as is also Collapse by the same author. But it is a good example of a book that is, IMHO, unsuited for audiobook format.

What a drag!

This book is incredibly heavy-going to read. I found it impossible to stay awake listening to it. Also, the narrator mispronounces words, notably heir, which he pronounces as hair.
This author Michael Flynn and this narrator Anthony Heald are definitely on my blacklist.
The idea behind the book could have been developed into a really good book. Pity.
