While it is not as heart pounding and hair rising as the Silent Patient, it is still a good and worthwhile read. It feels a little strained along the way, as if it is working too hard to deceive you, but the ending is ultimately satisfying and does work. Recommended.

The characters grow on you over the course of the book, becoming deeper and more complex, which helps draw you into the story and the intrigue. The ending is far fetched and there are a few too many connections, too many open issues, too many suspects, to be believable, and there are certainly loose ends, including a forgotten character who falls out of the story, and effects from events that seem to go unnoticed when the obviously would be, but even with all that, it was a fun read.

Another Great Lisa Jewell book

The last six or so Lisa Jewell books: the night she disappeared, invisible girl, I found you, watching you, the family upstairs, and then she was gone are all excellent reads. This fits right in with them, great characters that you care about, warmth, an intriguing mystery, and some suspense. Well worth your time. I also like how she varies the twists/endings/reveals of her books, so you don't just feel like you are reading various iterations on a theme. each book has its own special character.

I like the concept, but the delivery is tedious and annoying. the plot is contrived, the investigation is weak and highly unbelievable, there are plot holes you could drive a truck through, and most of the characters are one-dimensional stereotypes. The main character's "socially different" persona, whether or not it is intended to be on the spectrum (which is a whole different discussion) is inconsistent - sometimes astute, sometimes clueless, sometimes intelligent, sometimes a dope - based not on a character traits, but how it fits the storyline. Even with all of that, it might have been OK If it contained about 90 percent fewer "Gran used to say ..." platitude clichés. I don't understand the high ratings for this book, and how it can possibly have higher ratings than most Tana French books, Lisa Jewell, Jodi Picoult, etc. etc. All of their books are far superior, but many have lower ratings.

Excellent Anthology of British Punk

Excellent chronical. The book dives deeply into how a store owner and a few misfits turned the country, and eventually the world, on its head. It is such a preposterous story in so many ways, but Jon Savage makes sense of it and explains how it happened. He also does an excellent job of impressing upon the reader why it matters and what the long run impact of this tiny slice of time would go on to be. The narrator, Chris McDonnell takes some getting used to, but once you get accustomed to his style, it is easy to follow and he does a very good job presenting this dense and rich material.

It is a very thorough, well organized chronical of the 1970's rock/punk/jazz/experimental music scene in new York, yes, but that is all it is. It is full of What's and When's but absolutely no Why's and How's, which is far more interesting and important. You don't get any sense of how it happens or why it matters. It is a pale shadow of the seminal work "England's Burning" which is similar in its concept, but fully invests in the description of how the punk movement developed and why it mattered. Pass on this one.

Another Excellent DC Smith

A great reboot of DC Smith to go along with the continuing King's Lake series. This is a much smaller, more personal story than the King's Lake and later DC Smith series, with only a small handful of characters involved, but it bears all the warmth and wit that you would expect from a Peter Grainger story. Loved it! And of course, Gildart Jackson excels as always.

The 5-Star Reviews are FAKE!!!

The reviews for this book are fake. Review after review written on the same day by people who have reviewed all the set same of books and given them all 5-star Reviews. THIS IS NOT A 5-STAR BOOK! This book is a wannabe knock off of Stranger Things. It has a nice pace and the characters aren't terrible. The problem is that it tries so hard to be Stranger Things that it defies logic. Characters do things that would never, ever have happened in reality. Mediocre kids fare at best.

Another great offering from Mark Radcliffe. Funny and informative - it falls more on the informative side, and less on the funny side than Reelin in the Years. If you love rock music, and love stories, behind the scenes details, and backstories, you will love this book. A+++.
