Don’t waste your credit
Revisado: 05-13-23
People magazine said this book is hilarious, so I got it. I’ve listened for an hour and a half without hearing a single even slightly amusing thing, much less anything hilarious. And Dave Barry needs to hire a real narrator for his books. HE’S AWFUL! I’d have given it no stars if I could. I’m getting my credit back for this stinker.

Historia
A successful film professor and podcaster, Bodie Kane is content to forget her past—the family tragedy that marred her adolescence, her four largely miserable years at a New Hampshire boarding school, and the murder of her former roommate, Thalia Keith, in the spring of their senior year. Though the circumstances surrounding Thalia’s death and the conviction of the school’s athletic trainer, Omar Evans, are hotly debated online, Bodie prefers—needs—to let sleeping dogs lie.

Fascinating!!!
Revisado: 07-20-22
I got this because I thought it might be interesting, but I was wrong. The way it’s written and narrated is perfection, and the information it presents makes it absolutely fascinating!! I learned so much that I never knew before about money through not just recent years, but for past centuries. If EVERYBODY listened and learned what’s in this book, maybe our government would actually fix what’s wrong with our money system. People would DEMAND it.

Historia
Miah Gray is a 27-year-old former army soldier living in rural New Hampshire with his sister, mother, and her boyfriend. He is plagued by PTSD, finding solace, but not redemption, with the aid of prescribed cannabis. All he wants to do is get high, relax with a good sandwich, and watch a meteor shower with his neighborhood crush, Jen. When the sun's light is blotted out the following morning and the world is plunged into darkness, Miah finds himself locked down with his family, covering windows with trash bags, lighting candles, and following the arcane rules of an ancient prophecy.

Revisado: 04-27-20
This has got to be the most boring, uneventful murder story I’ve ever heard in my life. I stuck with it because, dammit, I’m not a quitter. I thought that something had to actually happen sometime, but no. Don’t waste your credit. I only gave it one star instead of no stars at all because I liked the narrator.

Historia
Eight-year-old Horty Bluett has never known love. His adoptive parents are violent; his classmates are cruel. So he runs away from home and joins a carnival. Performing alongside the fireaters, snakemen and "little people," Horty is finally accepted. But he is not safe. For when he loses three fingers in an accident and they grow back, it becomes clear that Horty is not like other boys - and this "difference" is something that some people might want to use.

Historia
The real Richard Marder would shock his acquaintances, if they ever met him. Even his wife, long dead, didn’t know the real man behind the calm, cultured mask he presents to the world. Only an old army buddy from Vietnam, Patrick Skelly, knows what Marder is capable of. Then, a shattering piece of news awakens Marder’s buried desire for vengeance; with nothing left to lose, he sets off to punish the people whose actions changed his life years earlier.

All Time Favorite
Revisado: 12-24-13
What did you love best about The Return?
The fully developed characters. You grow to love or hate every one of them. You know who they are, how they feel, what they want.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Skelly, because you're never really sure about him.
Which scene was your favorite?
It's impossible to choose. The whole book is captivating.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The story of a Viet Nam veteran trying to honor his love for his wife by bringing justice and freedom to the country she loved so much.
Any additional comments?
I don't write many reviews, but I had to do it for this book. It starts out slow, getting you to know the people in the story so clearly that you have to know what happens to them, even though it might not turn out the way you hope. It's truly one of the best books I've listened to in a very long time.

Great Book - Lousy Narrator
Revisado: 09-02-11
The entire Mitch Rapp series is fabulous - one of my favorites - and Separation of Power is no exception. But when you're listening, not reading, the narrator can make all the difference in the world. Don't authors get together with their narrator to go over details of the book? First of all, for us listeners, it's really nice to have the same reader for an entire series. It's quite disconcerting when you start a new book in a series and WHOAA - that's now "how it's supposed to sound"! Especially when it's SOOO different, like between Nick Sullivan or George Guidall and Ken Kilban. George Guidall is one of the very best in the business, particularly for this type of book. Nick Sullivan is pretty good, too. But Ken Kilban makes the big, tough guy Mitch Rapp sound whiney and effeminate, to put it kindly. And the woman who was Anna "Really" is now pronounced Anna "Riley", for just one example. I wouldn't even listen to this if it wasn't a continuation from the last book, but I have to find out what happened.

7 Hours of Your Life You'll Never Get Back
Revisado: 09-19-03
James Patterson's books are generally predictable, but still entertaining & worth listening to (or reading), but this is absolutely ghastly. I'm probably more willing than most to get into a book & "believe" what's going on (One of my favorite book series is Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, set in present-day St Louis!) - but so much of what Patterson has happening in here is totally not "believable". Don't waste your time and money on this one.
