Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

I could not get into the book. I disliked the voice reading the book and the stories were boring.

Soon it's just Pi, the tiger, and the vast Pacific Ocean - for 227 days. Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle.

"Humans need... fantasies to make life bearable"
Revisado: 01-11-13
What made the experience of listening to Life of Pi the most enjoyable?
I found the first part of the book (on land) to be a bit drawn out. You would think spending most of the book describing a young man's struggle to survive on a life boat would be dull, but it was quite the opposite. The author did a wonderful job keeping the reader interested. You can almost feel the hunger that Pi feels and each small triumph warms your heart. The book is very intriguing and I would recommend it to everyone.
What does Jeff Woodman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He brings the characters to life.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
In the end, you'd pick the tiger, too.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Deplorable ending
Revisado: 12-09-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different ending would have made this book not be a tangle of hatred toward women and a look into the twisted minds of sociopaths...and nothing else.
What was most disappointing about Gillian Flynn’s story?
The ending wasn't an ending. It wasn't even a "create your own ending" finish. It just left you sick and upset. The lack of justice is such a load of bull. The characters just give up. Really?
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Too much back and forth and plot twists that left the author with no idea how to wrap it up. Figure it out next time. Don't play us into your world and leave us hanging at the end.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I did like most of the book. The ending, however, ruined everything.
Any additional comments?
I'm glad I got this for free and listened while training for a race, so at least I was multitasking and don't feel like I just wasted 20 hours of my life for THAT ending.
