Historia
What's an amnesiac AI doing in a place like this? Helix has no idea. He knows he planned to build a life for himself on Gravas Station, but he has no clue what he's been doing for the last half cycle. Nor does he understand why his ship crashed. A genius Tiralan scientist saved him by copying his code into an organic host, and after meeting her meddling mothers, it seems like his problems have only just begun.

Distracting Performance
Revisado: 04-17-23
There is very obviously two separate audio recording sessions that were melded together in the final version of this book. It is very distracting when the sound quality completely changes between sentences. One sounds like it is actually a studio recording, while the other seems muffled and distant, as if it were, quite literally, phoned in.
I have never had this experience with another audio book but it is quite jarring. There is a lot of it in the early chapters, but there is less as the book goes on. However, you are never actually rid of this strange audio-shifting.
Overall, I love the story. I appreciate both this author's ability to tell love stories from very interesting perspectives, but also the LGBTQ+ friendly nature of everything. It feels very respectful and I really appreciate seeing more variety in romance than just the standard male/female pairings.

Historia
Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy that began with A Game of Thrones. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction.

Inconsistent pronunciation between books
Revisado: 09-03-21
Reader changed pronounciation of many names and words between this book and the last, very distracting. Previous books also lined up with the TV show pronounciation, so it's doubly frustrating.

Good but not great, let down by performance

Abridged version ruins story
Revisado: 07-31-21
The fact audible / Amazon charges a full credit for the sad remnants of this story left after the cuts is a travesty, and I'll be filing for a refund.
The fact its not clearly labeled as a heavily abridged version is false advertising, too

Historia
Going undercover at a mass wedding as a bartered bride, Morrigan Blake has every intention of getting off the barbaric planet just as soon as it's over. Or, more correctly, just as soon as she captures footage of the mysterious princes rumored to be in attendance. After a euphoric night, Morrigan discovers her spaceship left without her, and Ualan of Draig is claiming she's his wife. It's not exactly the story this reporter had in mind.

Disjointed - But Decent
Revisado: 12-06-16
Unlike most, I began this series with Lords of the Var and then went back to read the Dragon Lords, so it gives me a bit of an odder introduction to the world of these stories. Overall, I think the writing was just about average, though the performance was really well done and appreciated.
The entire story (and from what I can tell at first glance - future stories in this series) all seem to rely on having a clueless female protagonist. In the case of this book, you have to suspend your disbelief and just accept that a seasoned journalist (the main character) has done little to no research on the planet, people, culture, or really anything in regards to a planet who's wedding customs she plans on writing a story about. Throw ontop of that a male character who seems completely clueless about women, to the point that his mother has to explain that being kind works better than barking orders and manhandling, who refuses to explain anything to his newly found wife, and I just was left boggling for the first half of the book.
After a while, the story does get better once the characters start to iron out various things, but it's still a premise built on shaky ground. It's very hard to like the lead male, as he can be both abrasive and abusive in early parts of the story and it's just shrugged off in a way that I don't care for. Other than sex, there isn't much development of the character's relationship, so the sudden shift from 'lusting after' to 'in love with' comes across as jarring.
There's also gaps in the story which I understand will likely be filled in by the later books that all seem to happen at the same time, but it can make the story not flow in a smooth manner. You have a lot of important things that seem to happen off-camera so you just don't get to experience it and it leaves the story feeling like swiss-cheese.
Overall, while the story wasn't horrible, it just isn't as good as the stories in the Lords of the Var series that comes later in this sequence.
