Historia
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

Shocking plot to desabilize the US to aid Hitler, implemented by Nazi-loving US Congressmen and Senators, then covered up.
Revisado: 11-19-23
An important historical and political work. If you care about historic manifestations of fascism, Naziism, virulent antisemitism and a shocking plot to destabilize America in aid of Hitler, you must listen to this story. Here was a plot conceived and implemented, sometimes at taxpayer expense, by US Congressmen and Senators, then covered up by a president. Brilliantly researched, written and narrated. Meticulous, compelling evidence supports every fact and event. Rachel Maddow is a wonder.

Best Narration Ever
Revisado: 06-01-22
A classic noir, not for modern feminist sensibilities, but what characters, what a story. Best was William Dufris' exceptional performance of each character. Listening was more than evocative, it was being in the room. You could smell the cigarette smoke, the sweat.

This Book Made Me Proud. And it Made Me Cry
Revisado: 01-15-22
Representative Jaime Ratkin has done something remarkable in this enthralling true story half legal thriller, half insight into personal grief over the loss of a son. Rep. Ratkin tells his own dramatic story about leading the Senate trial of the second impeachment of fmr. president Donald Trump arising from the January 6, 2021 insurrection against the Capitol and Congress. Ratkin reveals himself and his colleagues as relentless and brilliant in their pursuit of justice and accountability. Simultaneously he personalizes his personal anguish with his sorrow at the shocking attack on democracy. He grieves for Tommy Ratkin as he both fights and mourns for America.

The Mind and Philosophy of Steve Bannon Revealed
Revisado: 01-04-22
An excellent and well-narrated study of the philosophy called Traditionalism, which objects to modernity and advocates a return to some imagined, prior, utopian past where spirituality, nationalism, dictated gender roles and tacit racism govern separate, insular, sovereign nation-states. Reveals how this pholosophy influenced Bannon's alt-right political views. The trouble with the belief system is that modern society must first be destroyed before the "correct" spiritual enlightment is achieved. Explains much about the Bannon zeitgeist.

Historia
In the years leading up to the election of Donald Trump, Congressman Adam Schiff had already been sounding the alarm over the resurgence of autocracy around the world, and the threat this posed to the United States. But as he led the probe into Donald Trump’s abuses of presidential power, Schiff came to the terrible conclusion that the principal threat to American democracy now came from within. In Midnight in Washington, Schiff argues that the Trump presidency has so weakened our institutions and compromised the Republican Party that the peril will last for years.

A Clarion Call for Those who Love America
Revisado: 12-21-21
Rep. Adam Schiff is the true voice of the shining beacon of freedom we believed was our America. With brilliant insight, deeply held democratic principles and an unparalled tenacity, he brings the reader into the crisis of governance and morality that was the Trump presidency. His literal voice, as narrator, is no less compelling. Best of the Trump regime "insider" books, it behooves us to follow his lead and fight to restore the Democracy we thought we were until 2016.

Historia
Stephen Miller is one of the most influential advisors in the White House. He has crafted Donald Trump’s speeches, designed immigration policies that ban Muslims and separate families, and outlasted such Trump stalwarts as Steve Bannon and Jeff Sessions. But he’s remained an enigma. Until now. Emmy- and PEN-winning investigative journalist and author Jean Guerrero charts the 34-year-old’s astonishing rise to power, drawing from more than 100 interviews with his family, friends, adversaries, and government officials.

Stephen Miller is revealed as the Count Dracula of the xenophobe nation. This well-researched biography explains much about how White Nationalism became the core principle of the Trump presidency. The book is truly frightening.

James Lee Burke and Will Patton Belong Together
Revisado: 10-25-21
Nothing can beat James Lee Burke's deeply evocative writing and character depth. Dave Robicheaux and Clete Purcell are violently flawed yet we want to love them. Burke weaves contemporary society's fissures into his story through character introspection without becoming political. We are flung from awesome natural beauty into terrible violence. Match Burke with Will Patton's vocal skill and the book soars.

Historia
How did America end up with a leader who acts so crudely and despotically, and counter to our democratic principles? Why do his followers stick with him, even when he acts against their interests? John Dean, a man with a history of standing up to autocratic presidents, joins with Bob Altemeyer, a psychology professor with a unique area of expertise: authoritarianism. Together, using psychological diagnostic tools, as well as exclusive research and analysis from the Monmouth University Polling Institute, the authors provide us with an eye-opening understanding of the Trump phenomenon.
