Historia
Daniel Clay fought across the galaxy as a corporate soldier. He left the violence behind for a life of science, raising a family far from the bloodshed of the Corporation. With his wife, Sarah, and son, Michael, he studied the alien Tyr for years, hidden among their complex societies. Their mission should have ended with the arrival of a replacement team. Instead, the Clays’ corporate overlords choose a death sentence: an invasion fleet to conquer the Tyr.

An engaging story and a superb performance
Revisado: 10-11-23
I really enjoyed this book. The pacing is good and the character development is great - you really do want to keep listening just to find out how they are. How Tyr society is structured is well explained and I didn't ever feel lost. RC Bray is excellent as always but I think we've come to expect that by now.

Historia
Comet Anduru skimmed the clouds of Saturn. Rather than being drawn into the gas giant, it skipped back out into space. With the comet heading for Jupiter, speculation is mounting it’s an alien spacecraft making its way to Earth. Lieutenant Colonel Nolan Landis and Dr. Kath McKenzie are caught between an angry public and an anxious President as they grapple with the scientific, social, and political implications of first contact.

Good start but pretty poor ending
Revisado: 08-29-23
The narrator was great here and that really helped. The story starts well and there is a growing sense of something big about to happen but then it goes a little wierd with people being launched into deep space with little or no training. I'm trying not to drop spoilers but the ending is too abrupt - right at the 'oh my god' moment, the story skips rapidly forward with no satisfactory ending. It was worth listening to but don't get your hopes up too much. I will not be listening to any more from the author.

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Greg Dixon is living a nightmare. Attending boarding school outside of Boston, he is separated from his family when a pandemic strikes. His classmates and teachers are dead, rotting in a dormitory-turned-morgue steps from his room. The nights are getting colder, and his food has run out. The last message from his father is to get away from the city and to meet at his grandparents' town in remote New Hampshire.

Well written but dull.
Revisado: 07-01-23
I don't often write reviews of audio books but I had to write this just to warn people about the 5 star reviews which this book does not deserve. A few reviewers have compared it to Stephen King's The Stand and Justin Cronin's The Passage - but in those books the reader feels a full range of emotions and gets swept along by the action and the pacing. In this book some events happen one after the other with little to no sense of drama. About 2/3rds of the way through I'd had enough. I could see where the plot was headed and knew that it would unfold in the same monotonous way as everything before. Just save yourself a credit and get something else - maybe Stephen King's The Stand or Justin Cronin's The Passage for example.

Parts of this are brilliant but wading through the story to find those he EMS just isn't worth it. Good performance though by Ben, that was part of what kept me going to the end.

Historia
Neal Stephenson’s sweeping, prescient new novel transports listeners to a near-future world where the greenhouse effect has inexorably resulted in a whirling-dervish troposphere of superstorms, rising sea levels, global flooding, merciless heat waves and virulent, deadly pandemics. One man has a Big Idea for reversing global warming, a master plan perhaps best described as 'elemental'. But will it work? And just as important, what are the consequences for the planet and all of humanity should it be applied?

Oddly unsatisfying
Revisado: 12-06-21
This is a very well written story, with good pacing and read by a great narrator. It just isn't that interesting though. The characters are all interesting and the backdrop has lots of potential yet by the end I couldn't really say that it delivered a wow moment. I'm normally a fan of Stephenson (I even quite liked Reamde) but this one fell a little flat. Maybe it's the start of a series and if so then I'll be happy to follow along.

No real story here but the voice acting is great
Revisado: 04-08-18
I would struggle to explain to anyone what the story was about. It wandered along at a reasonable pace but wasn't really going anywhere. The voice acting is top notch but wasted on this story.

Historia
A pyramid predating all known cultures appears without warning. Its discovery throws into question everything we know about the origins of mankind. Inside lies incredible technology, proof of a culture far more advanced than our own. Something dark lurks within, eager to resume a war as old as mankind. When it is unleashed, it heralds the end of our species' reign.

Starts well but gets increasingly daft
Revisado: 02-23-18
The audio performance is fine and the story starts off well but by book two it's just plain daft. Example, the HIV virus was actually created by an ancient race of humans and it causes patients with it to mutate into zombies in the presence of a coronal mass ejection. That's not even the craziest idea in the book. I stopped listening about half way short because life is too short to waste.

The biggest disappointment I've had with Audible
Revisado: 07-20-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The first book in the series is pretty good, the second is poor and the third I just gave up on. Perhaps a young listener might enjoy the plot but I doubt it
What could David Simpson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The plot lines in the second and third book weren't as consistent e.g. main characters wife dies, he almost immediately falls in love with another then later his first wife comes back to life (don't ask) only for him to go back to her as if nothing happened.
What does Ray Chase bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
It was easy to stick at it. Ray kept me going through some pretty crappy plot. Thanks to him I wasted more time on this third-rate story
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Post-Human Omnibus?
Books two and three definitely. I stopped after that though so maybe it got better.
Any additional comments?
Keep moving, there's nothing worth seeing here ...

Historia
Comparing Google to an ordinary business is like comparing a rocket to an Edsel. No academic analysis or bystanders account can capture it. Now Doug Edwards, Employee Number 59, offers the first inside view of Google, giving readers a chance to fully experience the bizarre mix of camaraderie and competition at this phenomenal company. I'm Feeling Lucky captures for the first time the unique, self-invented, yet profoundly important culture of the world's most transformative corporation.

A great story which is well read
Revisado: 03-18-13
Where does I'm Feeling Lucky rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was my first audiobook and, unfortunately for subsequent books, sets a pretty high standard. The story is engaging, there's an inevitability to the outcome (no I don't mean Google getting big) but the story unwinds at a good pace. You don't really need to know anything about Google to enjoy this book - it possibly helps if you know very little.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Doug is obviously the main character but Marissa Mayer comes across in a very interesting light - no spoilers here but you do get a great insight into her personality
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, this is one to enjoy over a period of time.
