This is old school southern gothic, where the horror is implied and the mood permeates the book.

A powerful short story that grabs you from the first line. In the tradition of old western storytelling, but in a modern setting.

Great new version of a timeless classic

I thoroughly enjoyed this new version of Huck Finn. It was my first time "reading" it since school and I have a new appreciation for why it has become a classic. Great storytelling with a quiet sense of humor.

Theo Holland does a great job bringing the story and characters to life. His voices and accents bring extra dimensions to the story.

What made the experience of listening to Hat Check the most enjoyable?

Action driven story with a comedic edge. The narrator did a great job with the character voices, adding another dimension to the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hat Check?

Some of the exchanges between the two thugs had me equally laughing and horrified. Great, visceral imagery.

Which character – as performed by Theo Holland – was your favorite?

Hard to pick a favorite. The main character is sympathetic and engaging, carrying the story.

Some of the scenes with the two thugs are hilarious.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Very funny and action driven.

Great fun, lots of adventure

A funny, old school adventure story. The charm and resourcefulness of the main character is a draw and some of the people he runs into along the way provides comic relief.

The book reminds me of a James Bond caper, action packed, but never taking itself too seriously.

Theo Holland does an outstanding job narrating this novel. The main character must have traveled through 10 countries and the narrator uses accents and character voices to bring the story to life, adding a great element his performance. Very impressed.

Great old school mystery novel

Old school mystery novel featuring a retired boxer. I like the hard-boiled, noir aspects, mixed with it being set in a rural setting, which brings a different twist.

Good character development, which draws you into the story.

Theo Holland does a very good job of bringing the story to life. His voice fits the main character perfectly.

A great adventure that happens to be a Sci-Fi novel

A great story that reminds me of the Firefly TV series, mixing elements of science fictions and classical western novels.

The novel is action driven and the characters continue to develop though the book.

Theo Holland uses voices and accents in the dialogue. The narration is well paced and he really brings the story to life.

Old school noir with great sense of place

Old school, hard boiled detective novel set in New Orleans. Well written and true to the genre.

Well plotted, well written. I enjoyed the ambiance and descriptions of the setting, as well as the main characters.

I enjoyed the narrator. His voice was a very good match for he main character for me and the performance was well paced.
