Like VH1 Behind the Music for Wine Lovers
Revisado: 03-03-24
So much information, so many places, names, wineries, farms and practices. It can feel a little long winded at times, but if you love all the nooks and crannies in the wine world and behind the scenes looks into some of the worlds best and amazing wine minds, you'll love every second of this book. Great work by the narrator, voice fits well with the material and when comedy or awkward moments happen, he reads it like he's just telling a story at the dinner table. Great stuff..cheers 🥂

Historia
From the Bible to Benjamin Franklin, from the cuneiform tablets of the ancient Sumerians to the dinner tables of modern bistros, wines have always been a part of civilization, culture, and history. Every country in the world has a special relationship with wine and takes a unique approach to the making, serving, and enjoying of it. Wine is an expression of the hopes, dreams, and cultures of the people who make it, so what better way to learn about the countries of the world than by learning about their wines?

Only One Issue
Revisado: 07-26-23
I found this little gem for free on the Amazon site and I tell ya, I would have paid $20 plus for this short, yet very informative snippet of a book. History, regions, grape varietals and a little humor make this a quick, yet very enjoyable listen. The only issue I had whatsoever was...... it wasn't long enough. I wanted more! Great performance, great story and history of wine in just a few glasses. I will be looking for more Paul Wagner anything!

Becoming Normal
Revisado: 04-15-23
I have been in and around wine for most of my career. A chef's life is full of food and drink, with the latter being the customary "bath after a long day" affair. A few winery's, cheeses and girlfriends later you tend to get introduced to the wine scene just by chance or dumb luck. But as most people will tell you, it's not the most welcoming of societies. So finally ready to do more than just drowning a bad day with a jug of sweet red plonk that leaves you felling no worse for the wear and no wiser in the process, I decided I needed to understand more about this alluring fermented beverage. So I nabbed this audio-book because several reviews and some sommeliers had this book in their top 10 or so "Must Read Wine Books". It's not normal, it's not really for normal people. That's not saying it's bad, it just means that you should know something about wine before you pop the cork on this 14 hour bath of knowledge. Regions, areas of interest, a few grape varietals and understand at least the basics. If not, you will probably listen for an hour or two, your mind will wonder and then loose interest. Again, not bad, just not for normal people in my humble opinion. If you care about the craft, want to further your knowledge about history of wine, understand the process that goes into wine making and the hundreds of hands that touch the bottle you're about to open, then go get this NOW. Amazing from top to bottom. Just understand, after you read this book, you will no longer be normal, at least in the subject of wine anyways.

A restless perfectionist, Redzepi was at the top of his game but was looking to tear it all down, to shutter his restaurant and set out for new places, flavors, and recipes. Revisado: 04-06-23
What an amazing adventure! Stories of food, wine, tacos, Mezcal and divorce. The whole book I was just imagining being this guy. The best chef in the world just calls you up out of the F'n blue, invites you to a wonderful new land with amazing riches and you feel all wishy washy about it? In the immortal words of my good friend (not really) Keyshawn Johnson...... "C'mon Man!" So dude reluctantly decided to go, has the time of his life and half way through decided give us the "going through the big D and I don't mean Dallas" spiel. Solid read my man, I just wish I were you, so NO STARS! OK, sorry I didn't mean that. I'm just jealous, sue me.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Revisado: 04-06-23
I love me some McConaughey, but after this little listen, I'm a bit exhausted. The stories of how he got started...Alright. The stories of his family and the resurgence of his career.....Alright. But the quotes and self titled "Bumper Stickers".......Whatever. Solid read, but more for the fun than philosophy.

Whatever Man, I'm Not An Addict
Revisado: 04-06-23
I don't have a whole lot to say outside of, my head is still spinning. "Maybe I need some coffee to focus?" "No! No! I don't need it," "I just want some. I'm not an addict." "But I need to go to bed soon and I won't sleep" "OK, F it, I'm getting a cup, no, two, just to be safe." If that is how you feel sometimes, then maybe this could be the eye opening read you've been looking for. Red eye jokes aside, I found this very interesting, sometimes bordering on scary. The things we've done for caffeine, the things caffeine has done to us and to beat it all, we're still figuring it out as we go.

Raw, Revealing and Heartfelt
Revisado: 04-06-23
I've known of Joe Bastianich for many years now, so it was nice to get to know the man behind those lazy, yet searing eyes. The man could only look at someone and that someone could hear Joe screaming "you are a complete (exploitative here) idiot!" telepathically in 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound in their head. Raw and real look into his world. The hard-nosed, work until your hands bleed father "The Restaurant Man", to the elegance and culinary genius of his mother. Revealing tales of their restaurants, the new Italian wine boom he helped create and stories of his business partner Chef Mario Batali. A true heartfelt trip down memory lane and beyond. Great listen, definitely recommend!

Still A Donkey
Revisado: 04-06-23
I write this as a lighthearted jab to the author. The book was pretty OK. Several good stories with a few stories about the man, the myth, the legend that is Gordon Ramsay. I would have enjoyed the book way more with a professional narrator or at least a half decent one. I applaud the author for trying but his Canadian accent with random British slang was not appealing to my ears.

Historia
We live in an extraordinary time. Technological advances are happening at a rate faster than our ability to understand them, and in a world that moves faster than we can imagine, we cannot afford to stand still. These advances bring efficiency and abundance - and they are profoundly deflationary. Our economic systems were built for a pre-technology era when labor and capital were inextricably linked - an era that counted on growth and inflation and an era where we made money from inefficiency.

Solid Read
Revisado: 03-21-22
I first came across Jeff Booth on a YouTube channel I follow almost religiously called Invest Answers. James was having an interview with Jeff and within 15 mins I wanted to buy this book. Was a solid read. Really opens up your mind. Brings new ideas or just changing the way we think about old ideas. I've always had a froward thinking mind, but some massive business did not or could not change. The rate of technology is moving at such a rate, it's almost impossible to keep up. But, this book will at least help, if you're interested in doing so.
