I've always been a fan of Demi Moore's acting. This book is a decent read. As you can surmise from is length, there is not a whole lot more information in the book that anyone who lived in the US through the 80's and 90's would know because everything about her life has been so publicized. There is more depth regarding her point of view, but I never felt as if she made herself fully vulnerable. She greatly downplays her privilege. The message of the book seems to be that fame and money do not automatically bring happiness nor equate to self-worth. The latter requires a conscious personal choice and takes work. Certainly her life has not been easy. And the book is a worthwhile read. It simply is not as detailed or vulnerable as it could be.

A Pleasant Read

This book is pleasant enough, but did not completely draw me in. I think I could have put it down at any point, not gone back to it, and been fine with that. There is the theme that all people are flawed, but no one is without good or unredeemable. Then there is the theme of the house, which is essentially that past has the power to pull us back to it, regardless of where life takes us. There is good character development of the Danny and Maeve and, in the end, their mother. There is nothing wrong with the book, but nothing that makes it an outstanding read for me.
Tom Hanks' narration is very good, but in many places it seemed like this was initial read through vs. him being a true fan of the book.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. While clearly cathartic for the author to write, I am dumbfounded by the level of vulnerability that she displays. I can't say I enjoyed the book. It's not intended to be enjoyed. But the book caused me to feel the gamut of emotions - horrified to hopeful. More importantly it has caused me to think of many things in a different light, which was a primary goal of the author. It can definitely be triggering; so, it's important for the reader to be in a place to read this content. That said, I would highly recommend this book to those who are open to what the author has to say and in a place where they can receive it.

A cute, quick, entertaining read that can be easily enjoyed by any fan of the Harry Potter movies. Tom Felton presents himself as a "Dennis the Menace" type of personality. The presentation is light-hearted and pleasant. He also shares his darker moments later in life and how he has been able to overcome his demons. The afterwards is very touching. Recommended as a fast "pick me up" type of read.

I picked up this book because it was on sale, and I’m so glad that I did! I found it to be touching and refreshing. As a cyclist in a long distance athlete, I could relate to the question of why we pursue the sports that we do, and the sense of accomplishment that comes from doing hard things. I also admired the love story that is based first and foremost on camaraderie. The author’s witty sense of humor is a huge bonus. Just a great little book.

We all know Connie Chung as such a serious reporter. This is a great memoir because in it she shares many other aspects of her personality and her (fascinating) life. She seems to have a great sense of humor, and is not scared to laugh at herself. She does a beautiful job of putting the appropriateness of comments and actions in what was the norm of time, pointing out where these would be viewed very differently today. She openly shares not only what she considers to be her greatest accomplishments, but also her foibles, and even some choices that she considers blunders. She looks back on this last category as "what was I thinking?" moments. A very well written and enjoyable memoir of someone who has overcome virtually insurmountable odd to achieve greatness, while remaining utterly human. Well done!

Most GenXers would be able to appreciate this book. It brings back a lot of memories from younger days. That said, there is acknowledgment toward the end of the book that the John Hughes movies were very ethnocentric, with no minority representation in them, save for some “comic relief.“ Overall, a very enjoyable book. One point on the narration, the way the narrator pronounces “pink“ is so annoying that it was barely tolerable by the end of the book.

I've seen documentaries of these Cleveland crimes, as well as survivor interviews, and read a true crime book about them. But this memoir gives a much more complete view of the complete life of Michelle Knight/Lily Rose Lee. She is far more than what happened to her and makes herself vulnerable in this memoir. Her life story is both amazing and inspiring.

A Different Perspective on Reagan

This book is filled with great information on Reagan's entire life. If definitely provided a new perspective for me not only of Ronald Reagan, but also of Nancy Reagan. Although the author purports to be unbiased, it seems like he had the intent of tarnishing the Reagan legacy. He is also draws a lot of parallels between Reagan and Trump. Political views aside. I found the period of time up through the Presidency to be pretty fast-paced, then it seemed to me to drag during the portion that covered the Presidency. I'm glad I read the book and would recommend it.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. I will say that the author has been in far more productions than I realized. I was also not aware of his service in organizations such as the USO, which is commendable. That said, the amount of name dropping was almost unbearable. And, of course, he is “best friends” with everybody he meets. Yet, despite all this name dropping, he never mentions some of the people that he has most famously associated with, such as Mandy Moore, Lindsay Lohan, and Demi Lovato. Beyond that, his sense of self importance and the influence that he believes he has had on the Latino community is far greater than the reality of it. The fact that he thinks that people recognizing and being happy to see Fez means that he has had some deep and permanent impact on their lives and development as people is simply absurd. The fact that he thinks the show “Yo Mamma“ had such deep societal meaning and value… again, absurd. I was shocked at his reaction to being called lucky and that this was the subject of an entire chapter of the book. Of course he’s lucky. Does he seriously not think so? Does he really think that he is that much more talented and that much harder of a worker than everybody else? What about his good fortune of being born into a family that supported every hope and dream he could possibly express? What about the fact that there are tons of people out there that are truly gifted and work their tails off but just never get the right break? Of course luck factors in. The political rant in the final chapters- just no. In the end, I wonder if this book was truly written as a campaign/advertisement to help him get Zorro made.
