Shenshee Whooldan lives with her grandfather in the Celkee Forest until tragedy strikes and her grandfather dies at the hands of a demon. Before he dies, he confers the job of Keeper of the Portals on her. She has no idea what that means, since she didn’t even know the Keeper existed. After her grandfather’s death, she is sent to an orphanage, further limiting her ability to fulfill her promises to her grandfather. No one believes in the immortals anymore, the demon is stalking her, another orphan is out to make her life miserable, and her teacher seems to not like her very much.

My family listened to the book during a road trip. We loved every twist and turn. You would never know that this book was written by a new author! This rivaled the most renowned fantasy authors I’ve read! I can’t wait for book 2!!
