PECCAVI. The Latin word is scrawled in blood at the scene of a young woman's brutal murder: I HAVE SINNED. It's a chilling Christmas greeting for Boston medical examiner Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli, who swiftly link the victim to controversial celebrity psychiatrist Joyce O'Donnell, Jane's professional nemesis and member of a sinister cabal called the Mephisto Club.

Start with earlier books
Revisado: 10-17-06
This is a very good book, which I thoroughly enjoyed. However, if this is your first Gerritson book, I advise you read the surgeon and body double first, as these stories lend themselves to this story. I didn't do that and now wish I would have. Regrettably, I know the conclusions of those two books, and would have enjoyed listening to those 2 prior to this.

Stoner knew. The fiery object hurtling toward the Earth was an alien spacecraft. But the world might never know. He was trapped in an iron cordon of secrecy, for the discovery had shattered the world power balance, setting off a brutal struggle for supremacy that raged from the sacred halls of the Vatican to the corridors of the Kremlin and the Pentagon. The forces of fear and treachery would use any weapon at their command, from mind war to sabotage, to keep the world in darkness.

Very enjoyable
Revisado: 08-24-06
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After listening to quite possibly the worse book I have ever heard (the ruins) this was quite a relief. The conclusion was mildly disappointing but that is about it. Not a lot of sci-fi type content, more political, but again, it held my attention and I would recommend this book highly.

It SUCKS
Revisado: 08-14-06
This book sucks. What a waste. If you want to read about people dying with no rhyme or reason, this is your book. It sucks. From the literary standpoint, it sucks. I know I am being somewhat crude here, but did I tell you it sucks. Doesn't even deserve 1 star. I deserve a refund. It sucks.

Revisado: 08-01-06
Didn't think too much of this book at the beginning, but eventually the plot thickened and I was caught trying to figure out what was happening and trying to tie everything together. Narration was good and the end leaves you with a bit of a question.

With each and every new novel, Dean Koontz raises the stakes—and the pulse rate—higher than any other author. Now, in what may be his most suspenseful and heartfelt novel ever, he brings us the story of an ordinary man whose extraordinary commitment to his wife will take him on a harrowing journey of adventure, sacrifice, and redemption to the mystery of love itself—and to a showdown with the darkness that would destroy it forever.

I am used to Koontz having someone or something special in the book. This is nothing more than a kidnapping mystery with some strange characters. It was ok to listen to. If your having a tough time trying to find a book and your a Koontz fan, you might like this.

Ending was disappointing
Revisado: 03-21-06
Ok, so I was really into the storyline. Very timely as well. Pre 9/11, but boy, talk about prescient. Anyway, here I am listening to this story trying to figure out the ending and I am left with what. Nothing. As another reviewer stated. The beginning is very good, the middle good and the end, well, like eating a porterhouse and saving the tenderloin for the end only to find it tough and without flavor....

Historia
Every so often a character so captures the hearts and imaginations of listeners that he seems to take on a life of his own long after the final chapter. For such a character, one book is not enough—listeners must know what happens next. Now Dean Koontz returns with the novel his fans have been demanding. With the emotional power and sheer storytelling artistry that are his trademarks, Koontz takes up once more the story of a unique young hero and an eccentric little town in a tale that is equal parts suspense and terror, adventure and mystery—and altogether irresistibly odd.

A nice listen
Revisado: 01-18-06
I enjoyed this book. I have "read" several Koontz books, and some have been a bit spookier, but this was enjoyable. The narrator and the manner in which the book is written (sometimes from a first person perspective) made it easy to listen too. Not too heavy, not too light. If you want something heavy and in depth, don't get this. There is a level of suspense to the story, and in the end, some questions remain.

Excellent
Revisado: 01-17-06
A very good listen. I only wish I would have read the previous book first. The only cons I have with this is the narrator tends to stay on accent even after a character speaks. The author also tends to repeat himself, though I only can think of twice. The story however, is the main point, and in today's political climate it is refreshing to hear a story about people with courage to face down a threat...

Bernard Goldberg takes dead aim at the America Bashers (the cultural elites who look down their snobby noses at "ordinary" Americans and detest so much of what this country is about); the Hollywood Blowhards (incredibly ditzy celebrities who think they're smart just because they're famous); the TV Schlockmeisters (including the one whose show has been compared to a churning mass of maggots devouring rotten meat); the Intellectual Thugs, and many more.

Easy, insightful read
Revisado: 10-14-05
Pretty basic book. Tells you some things you should already know. Not for the liberally minded individual as it may not be to their liking, though I think the author nails it. On some people he is probably a bit harsh, whereas others he plainly describes their lunacy.
