The title of this review sums up the author’s point. He simply takes Marx’s point of view to explain why human beings struggle with morality as a result of their psychological perspectives. He claims that humans believe in God, strictly for the purpose to be better people, yet he avoids all of the spiritual content involved in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Marx advocated for socialism and communism, which in theory, might result in a productive society if human beings were willing to seek out a higher moral standing. The reason I am giving this book a one review is because I feel that the author, whether intentionally or non-intentionally, disguises his motivation for the book. The author presents scripture as biblical evidence of his theory, but the use of high vocabulary and highly structured ideas make it difficult for the reader to understand. If you are intent upon reading this book, I highly recommend you skip to the conclusion, which gives his main idea and will avoid the 24 hours of audio/page reading. I began this book, hoping it would help me understand my relationship with Christ better, and therefore, draw me nearer to God. I finished this book feeling sad because the author indicates that it’s only the belief that such a God COULD exist that matters. I believe
that the human condition can only be cured by a relationship with Christ. I should point out that the author never actually says he doesn’t believe in God; but rather, he poses the question to the reader, who is then presented with evidence that such a God doesn’t need to exist, and that we simply need to reach for higher moral standing. I hope this helps with “those of you who wrestled with this book.” I know my struggle was real!
