Historia
The New York Times best-selling author of Magpie Murders and Moriarty brilliantly reinvents the classic crime novel once again with this clever and inventive mystery starring a fictional version of the author himself as the Watson to a modern-day Holmes, investigating a case involving buried secrets, murder, and a trail of bloody clues.

Awful!
Revisado: 10-29-24
I loved the TV series Foyle's War, so I thought i would love this book by its creator and writer, Anthony Horowitz, but this is all about Anthony Horowitz. And what a snooze. Every time this starts to get to the mystery, Horowitz, the narrator in the book, turns the story back to himself. What a disappointment. Skip this one.

Great fun series and Great Installment
Revisado: 06-29-21
This is a wonderfully fun series. Captain Lacey is self-deprecating but stops short of being a character you feel sorry for. The mystery murders are clever. The other characters - his love interest, his bodyguard, his rich friend, his actress neighbor, are the best part. The narration is excellent - Gillies has a strong clear voice and does a great job on the various characters' voices. And these stories are not too long - so you can finish it on a road trip or in a week or two of commuting. This is one of the best of the series in how it wraps everything up at the end. A pleasure to listen to and works fine as background music too - you do not have to catch every single word to follow along. Highly recommend.

Historia
London, 1819. When Brewster, my bodyguard, comes to me about a murder of a pugilist - and what’s more, says his wife has summoned me - I must hasten to St. Giles to find a killer before Brewster is arrested for the crime. This is made difficult because Donata's late husband’s odious cousin has materialized to try to wrest her son into his care. After all, seven-year-old Peter is a viscount, and his cousin wants to get closer to the title.

I love this series and it just gets better with every new installment. The characters are all wonderful and become more fully developed in each new book. The narrator of these books on tape is marvelous and does all the different accents so it is easy to keep track of who is speaking. Can't wait for the next one!

Best of Series
Revisado: 05-10-18
All of the Lady Judia-John Pickett mysteries are great fun but this one is the best so far. Great mystery, wonderful continuing romance of Lady Julia and Pickett. The narrator is top notch, ably acting out various parts and accents beautifully. Really fun, great listen. Enjoy!

Historia
The third installment of the John Pickett series of humorous Regency mysteries finds Bow Street Runner Pickett in Scotland investigating a woman found unconscious on the beach - a woman who bears a striking resemblance to the local laird's daughter, a girl missing and presumed dead for the last 15 years. Pickett is surprised to discover that the woman was found by none other than Lady Fieldhurst and her three young nephews - and gratified to learn that her ladyship has registered at the seaside inn as Mrs. Julia Pickett.

Totally Fun Mystery with Romance
Revisado: 04-06-18
Would you listen to Family Plot again? Why?
After awhile, i will forget who did it, so i may go back. BUT, i suspect the romance will progress from this point so it may not work to go back after i have read more in the John Pickett series.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Family Plot?
The Cliff Scene at the end
Which scene was your favorite?
The scene between Lady Julia and Pickett at the ball.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no, more fun to take it in bits.
Any additional comments?
At least the Anne Perry books have a political or historical "theme" running behind the mysteries - these don't even pretend to have any such important background theme - they are just pure fun - a mystery story with a budding romance. Well written and beautifully narrated, including wonderful Scottish accents, women's voices, etc by Joel Froomkin. Every time i finish one, i rush to get the next one into my library.

A lovely woman whose life is about to splinter into a thousand fragments. A professional shoplifting ring working for the Mob, racking up millions from stolen goods. A wandering husband, rich and ruthless. A dirty cop so entrenched on the force he is immune to exposure. A sinister gangster, conscienceless and brutal. A lonely widower mourning the death of his lover, desperate for answers, which may be worse than the pain of his loss.

Great Maisie Dobbs story with Good Narrator
Revisado: 08-25-16
Where does Pardonable Lies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Near the top
What was one of the most memorable moments of Pardonable Lies?
Maisie's time with her friend Pris, talking and sharing memories. This time off from the "plot" is wondeful stuff, well written and beautifully performed by Orlaugh Cassidy.
Any additional comments?
They finally found a great narrator for these books - she does the men pretty well and the women extremely well. Pace is good and the accents are great. much better than other narrators.
